S2 question

OK, I admit that I'm a noob when it comes to DVB-S2. But I'm learning everyday.

The question is: What is the relevance of "pilot on"? I see some feeds utilize it and some do not.

Seems to have to do with frame synchronization. Here's one of many links, none of which have a simple explanation ( unless, of course, this IS the simple explanation ) .
