RV/Boat Dish Service Questions

I currently have a Boat with an Intellian "I2" In motion system. This system is compatible with either all (SD/HD) Dish Network Service (although Dish Compatibility depends on a sister Box "MiM" to the standard Intellian Dish controller) or KU-Band only DirecTV which can only see the SD only Core Service and Local SD Locals from 101 and 119 Spotbeams. I currently have the standard I2 for KU Band Only DirecTV

DirecTV is now replacing ALL SD Boxes free of charge, with them saying they are phasing out SD service. I've called them to ask what this means does it mean:

1) KU Band satellites are being turned off at some specific Date (to be determined later)
2) Turn off 119 so just No SD Locals or move to all 119 Locals to MPEG4 Service after you swap out the SD MPEG2 boxes
3) Only All SD Core Service to 101 in MPEG4 with new HD Box
4) Provide a limited number of Core channels in HD at 101

Nobody seems to know.

This means I would like to work out a solution.

It might mean getting the MIM Intellian box to use my Intellian I2, which can be set to Eastern Arc 61.5/72 or Western Arc 119/110/129. The Intellian I2 can only receive One Satellite slot at a time, but the Intellian I2 can output to TWO Boxes or ONE 2 tuner DVR.

I had Dish Network in the past. I'm wondering if Dish still has Older NON-Hopper/Joey Hardware like the 211 which I believe could become a one tuner DVR, or is a Two Tuner DVR worth it, and if or how many times would I have satellite slot conflicts based on the channels selected between the two tuners. How about a Single Tuner Wally would this work and does the Wally have the new Modern UI like the Hopper and how does the WALLY DVR HardDrive option work?

Any help anybody could provide would be extremely helpful.

Dish has the direct replacement for the 211 a two tuner Wally that becomes a DVR with an external hard drive like the 211. (There are some other differences - no built in OTA and no Component output) If you do a little searching you will find recent threads on this exact subject.

All Wallys are two tuner. It was released with software for only one tuner but a software update got the second tuner working.

The problem with the wally is it only has 1 input for the sat tuner. The lnb on the in-motion satellite would be incompatible with anything other than 1 tuner even though it has 2 outputs.

Stick with a 211. I've personally setup 1 of these on a houseboat with an in-motion satellite. Don't recall the brand name, it has been a few years. Was a little finicky to setup but worked great after it finally was able to recognize and store the sats we were using which was 110, 119 & 129.

*Edit

A 722 could work bypassing the separator and hooking both lines from the lnb to the 722. It could also cause issues if 1 tuner calls for a different sat then the other is currently on. This setup would require a person to know what channels were on what sats to prevent conflicts.

Yes, the Wally has the new UI, just like the Hoppers. The DVR hard drive option is the only way you can use both tuners on the Wally. Without the hard drive, it basically functions like a single-tuner non-DVR, even though it technically has two tuners. Just hook up a compatible hard drive to the USB port on the Wally, and pay Dish a one-time $40 fee for them to activate the DVR functionality. After that, you can record two shows at the same time, or watch one show live while another show records from the other tuner.

...except if stardust3 is right, or if the OP does not add a hard drive, then it basically would be a single tuner one. I think DPP (or DPH) LNBs are required for both tuners to work.

Yes, the LNBF on the Intellian I2 uses Dish Networks' Legacy LNBF switching technology.

Now the big question is, will this work with a Wally? I know Directv's latest equipment are only compatible with swm lnbs. Have serious doubts about a wally working with legacy stuff.

I have not tried it, but I think I read that it will work as a single-tuner receiver. My guess is that it disables the DPP separator that is built in, just like it did before the software was released to enable the second tuner.
