THE ARTICLE
BNE: Russia will soon start its own 24-hour English language TV news channel. Its name is Russia Today and it will be similar to CNN. The new channel will broadcast up-to-the-minute news of world and Russian affairs. Everything will be from a Russian viewpoint.
Russia Today will initially be broadcast in Russia, Europe, the USA and some C.I.S. and Asian countries. It is due to screen from as early as late summer. The launch may coincide with President Vladimir Putin’s speech to the U.N. in September.
Margarita Simonyan, editor-in-chief of Russia Today, said it was time to challenge CNN and the BBC. She said Russia Today will offer an alternative to the U.S.-British stranglehold on English-speaking world news coverage. She also said it would make interesting viewing.
The channel is an arm of Russia’s tightly controlled state media. Many people have expressed doubts over how much independence journalists will have. Others fear the Kremlin will inject propaganda into the news stories. Many doubt whether non-Russians will want to watch Russian news in English.

Boy! I love this one

What do you think FOX NEWS IS? Chicken ShIIIT?

Non-extremists will get the news, use their brain and extract the 2 pennies worth of news out of it. By the way! CNN, ABC. BBC, FOX, UPI are just dead as a news source in Latin America.
If I recalled correctly they are level as the "Dis-information branch of the US Empire." You do not have to believe me just read the Venezuelan, Peruvian, Argentinian, Bolivian Written Press. Even the Mexican TV, and written press are now against the US media because the way the run the (news) Cartel war in their station and papers.

Hell, Just to make my point did you get to see the mess that Our commander in Chief created in Argentina when he was there last month? Did you see that on the US networks? Hell not!!! They never publish nor broadcast stuff that makes us look BAD!!!

Reason why the Ruskies are now in the business.
It is call V-a-l-i-d-i-t-y.
You are more than welcome to deny the facts. Just as our VP. I hope he gets nails real soon. :hungry:

Hate to burst your bubble and/or destroy your conspiracy mindset but a simple search on Google turns up all kinds of information on the Bush protests in Argentina, including CNN. With the Internet there is no way anyone could try to surpress information. Remember the Rather/Mary Mapes deal?

Now I have no problem with Russia Today and look forward to watching them and their take on things. But to suggest that any news agency is an "arm" of the Bush administration is silly. And many of the countries you point to as being critical of the US media are leaning toward a socialist/communist/collectivist way of doing things so consider the source.

Russia Today's test pattern has actually been up for a few weeks now. I haven't seen anything on it yet, though read the piece in Moscow News about it being 'hacked' with a virus or something (fishy).

Socilist all over the back yard

Well, That is ODD when the story on the streets is that Fox Network is fixing to be rename as Bush Network. Including in this are the Below Corp people.
Now, we do know who is part owner of Below Corp.???

Well let see who are socialist in LA:
Uruguay= El partido Rojo.
Chile= Brochelet to the second run socialist as they come.
Venezuela= Mi commandante Chavez. Do I need to say more!!!
Brazil= Lula ex-card holder member of the Brazilian Communist party.
Bolivia= Next President Evo Morales. The coca planters union Chief. (I can bet we are going to screw this one Up as usual)
Ecuador= Dr. Palaces the MD weak as hell but Socialist nevertheless.
Argentina= Peron Party what is that?
Mexico= Candidate Lopez Obrador ex-mayor of Mexico DF. Nothing but a RED coalition.
I would like to thank the present Administration for forcing Latin America into the Socialist Corner.

Spain= I almost forget Mr. Shoemaker (ZAPATERO) He smoke the oposition after the mess at the train Station. A Super Socialist very close to Latin America. It is scarry how close is the Spanish government to LA. It is so SAD how far is the present administration from it. I wonder! Do they know that there is a Latin America?????

Geeze!

Somebody needs to have their meds adjusted.

Here's tip for ya baya... If they tell you to take the green pills, NEVER TAKE THE GREEN PILLS. That's how they get you.... Remember, no green pills OK.

When the Fox News Network is renamed the "Bush network" I'll send you $100. :)

Your assessment of the political figures is correct. However, I disagree that Bush has "driven them to it". We invite Latin America and the rest of the world to join in our success by adopting our system or a form of it. That is when there will be "Peace on earth"-when all are on equal footing and the way to do that is democracy and a capitalist economy, not socialism.

Well said ...

I'm not a socialist or anything, but I did think that Russia Today was pretty interesting. It has to be, because I'm stuck on IA5. I was going to move my dish to another satellite to see what else might be up there, but with all of the snow we have, I'm afraid I might loose everything if I moved my dish. (I literally would have to move my dish to the front yard.) I wish that I had another dish, so that I could try to tune in another satellite without messing up what I have. Anyway, Russia Today seemed (to me) to be the most watchable channel on IA5.
Do any of you comrades know when it might be back up? Soon, I hope.
?.?.?. ?????????! ????? ?? ?? ????????????? :)

Well,
I knew about the two types of economies back in the early 80's.
Bullets and butter!! I wonder, where are we know?
Piece on earth?? what Are are we talking???
War is one of the best business on the face of the earth.
I think no one want a democracy when the (ex) Leader of the House (Texan) has been indicted for money laundering???
Talk about Corrupt Democracy!! There is plenty of that in Latin America.
anythings else??
It is funny, but we are just as the Roman were bore they went belly up.
I am waiting to hear from the special prosecutor on your VP. :D

That's because there are some people who will believe anything.

When did free association rambling take over here?

On another topic *cough* Russia Today is back up and running. I like what I've seen so far. However, as with any media outlet, I'll take it with a grain of salt.
Anyway, here's hoping it stays FTA. If CCTV can, hopefully they can as well.

I hope that Russia today does very well in the fta field. It should given that voice of russia is one of the best shortwave stations dispite being on a shoestring budget.

I support things like shortwave, fta, public broadcasting because if things are allowed to go to companies only we'd end up with maybe just infomerials all day or things with little relavence.

Personally I wish we'd have more on the domestic side of things. I maybe of VOA TV added a ku side to it. It's important because the more people that can be reached of things the better.

I discovered the power of things when at work I tried to get a celtics game on radio. FM can get though...nothing on am...shortwave I actually got china radio which was relayed either by canada or cuba!

I relate this to FTA because it seems great that we can get channels from around the world but if we don't counteract some of theres we can lose a mindset of people.

I watched Russia Today last week when it was up and running. I found it to be a very interesting station. I'm a firm believer that you need to look at all sides of any issue to get a true sense of what's going on in the world. Anyone who simply ascribes to one point of view, or only watches or reads certain reporters or newspapers is much like a horse wearing blinders. I would imagine that there is someone in the world that only reads the National Inquirer for his/her news. That person is not me. This proud American looks forward to additional viewing of RT for a balanced diet of independently gathered information.
