The Tigers and Red Sox are on the main MLB Network channel tonight and since I am in Tigers' territory that game is blacked out for me. I checked the MLB Network ALT channel just to see which game they were giving us instead and it shows the Rockies and Astros joined in progress for both HD and SD at 10:00pm tonight. The game is supposed to start at 8:40.

I've seen HD RSN games JIP'ed plenty of times in the past but never a game on MLB Net ALT or NHL Network ALT. I can kind of understand the JIP if there wasn't enough bandwidth for the HD version even though I've never seen them do that on that channel before, but why would the SD version be joined in progress as well? Surely there is plenty of bandwidth to at least show the full game in SD.

I have MLB.TV so I can still check on that game. I'm asking about this mostly out of curiosity. It sure seems like someone from Dish made a mistake here. I've just never seen a SD channel get JIP'ed in my time with Dish.

Good question. Can we find out if it's on Direct from the start of the game? There are practically no games tonight of any sport so It can't be bandwidth. And like you said, the SD would always be on time anyways......

nope its not on Directv either.

When I go to 214-1 (the alt channel) right now is a D* logo with "upcoming MLB Network Alternate Programming" and it starts at 9:00 CDT

must be only for the late game and decided upon by MLB Network

Some reason MLBTV wasn't allowed to start on time?

I'm not sure why they are doing this on MLB Network tonight. I have had it on MLB.tv through my laptop since the first pitch while I watch the Tigers through dish.

Like I said it's not a huge deal for me because I can get the game by other means. I have just never seen this happen before.

I think you must be right. They must be saying it is only the alternate to the 10:00pm eastern time Brewers Dodgers game. Since Directv is also doing it I guess it's not dish's fault.

Usually if you are in a blackout zone for either game when there is a double header on MLB Net they give you 2 alternate games and black out the entire double header on the main channel.

I'm guessing I will be blacked out of the 2nd game since I'm blacked out of the first game (tigers). It's weird that they wouldn't show the entire first game on the ALT though.
