RG11 connectors and Tools

A member asked me what is available for RG11 cable as far as connectors and tools.

I bought a compression fitting tool locally that looks almost identical to the one in the picture above.. For years I had simply used a pair of plyers and squished the crimp type ends on to my cable runs. This past week I truly learned about how awesome proper compression fittings are. I had been struggling for over a year with my motorized FTA setup where the dish would only move if I selected a transponder that was Horizontal, so that the receiver was pushing out 18 volts to move the dish. I replaced all of my squished-on connectors with proper compression fitting ends, and WOW what a difference. My Motorized setup works on demand, and it doesn't matter if I select a horizontal or vertical transponder when moving the dish. Signal strengths are excellent too, without any glitching in the video. I am a huge compression fitting fan now.. I've replaced about 15 connections so far, and have got a bag of 50 connectors on their way (which should be here this afternoon).

You welcome Radar. Are you using RG11 for your setup? I think you mentioned you are trying to locate the dish a little further than current location and thus opted for RG11.

If I can coordinate the installation with my brother's schedule, I would like him to film the entire process. Augering the hole, installing the mast, routing and trenching the cable, configuring and wiring the switches, fabricating the cable and aligning the dish, grounding the system and everything.

He has a video recorder and I just have to talk him into doing this with me. I think it will make a great training video and be lots of fun!

I may try to run RG6 cable for the same distance as the RG11 and video the difference in the results. That would be a first time discovery process for me, so it will be a good learning tool.

I will also try several alignment procedures and film the steps to show the pros and cons.

Because of the economy, I might be delayed in this project. If the changes at work become permanent I stand to lose $20,000 annually and that will hurt my toy projects severely. My investments (401K and ROTH IRAs have already dropped more than $125,000 in the past year! This sucks).
