Obviously this is highly unusual for a HC in the NFL to do anything like this. What do you think about it??

Very creative, I'll give Ryan and the Jet's that. You can't fault him for trying. A call to the fanbase certainly can't hurt. It may even motivate some a little more than usual. With that said, he does come off as a bit desperate.

BTW, this is Week 2 right? Ryan's hyping this game against the Pats like it's Super Bowl XLIV!

Lol! I love it! Was this sent out to season ticket holders?
Yes

That's the problem. What do you do to get the guys up for the next game if they lose this one?? Podcasts??

Ryan hasn't coached a Jet home game yet...did he think the crowd would be quiet for a New England game or something? Jet fans make a ton of noise without any prompting from scoreboard noise meters...or coaches. Fireman Ed makes sure of that. The crowd would have been crazy even without a phone call. :)

The guy needs to lose some weight too. Jeez, I thought Mangini the penguin was chubby. If Ryan turns the Jets into a success, I hope he stays healthy enough to enjoy it.

The whole family's like that. You should see his brother Rob (Browns D-Coordinator). He looks like he's pregnant!

I can't tell you how much I hate scoreboards telling me when and how loud to cheer...The Cavs are the worst about that.

I wonder what the outlash will be like from Jets fans if/when they lose to the Pats this weekend? I mean, he's sure spending a lot of time on things that do not relate to preparing his team for the Pats.

Just like any other week...we'll move on to the next game. The worst that can happen is we'll be one game behind New England. We'll survive.

Judging by how Ryan coaches, win or lose nobody will think the team was not prepared.

You're making that "judgement" after ONE game?! LOL!

BTW, if you want to talk about coach preparedness, look no further to the opposing sideline and to the guy in the cutoff hoodie. Rumor is he's the best in the game! ;) :)

Jets saftey wants to "EMBARASS" the Pats!

Ruh roh!!!!! The Jets sure do like talking after ONE good week, huh? I wonder if this is a reflection of their "loose-lipped" coach?! ..........

The New York Jets' defenders are talking big for their Week 2 matchup against the New England Patriots. Earlier this week, defensive tackle Kris Jenkins called this game the Jets' "Super Bowl" and on Wednesday, free safety Kerry Rhodes said he wanted to "embarrass" the Patriots.

"You go out from the first quarter on, from the first play on, and try to embarrass them," Rhodes said, according to the New York Daily News. "Not just go out there and try to win, try to embarrass them. Try to make them feel bad when they leave here. We don't want to just beat them. We want to send a message to them, 'We're not backing down from you and we expect to win this game, and it's not going to be luck, it's not going to be a mistake.' "

Mr. Brady... Mr. Moss... Mr. Belichick........ Are you taking notes? Wow! Talk about bulletin board material!

Yes, it's my one game judgement. Difficult to make a 30 game judgement when they guy has only coached one game.

If you want to get picky about it you can also mention Ryan's defenses in Baltimore were always prepared as well.

I said that because you mentioned Ryan doing things other than preparing the team for the game. I never compared him to Belichek. You did. ;)

You're right I compared the two. And it's a perfectly relevent topic since the both of them will be facing off against each other this week. We'll see on Sunday who is the more prepared team.

BTW, your coach was the first to mention Belichick.... during his "phone call". He said he "wasn't going to kiss Belichick's rings."

More smack talk. It's a wonder why his players talk too. :)

Belichek certainly has a resume' Ryan (and many others) can only dream about. Belichek also has a generational talent as his QB, while Ryan has a rookie playing his second game ever. Belichek has personnel advantages in many other positions as well.

I also think Belichek went with a completely vanilla game plan against Buffalo, so as not to show the Jets anything. It almost cost him, as he needed a crazy fumble on a kickoff return to win at home against a team many consider to be weak.

This game is not a referendum on who is the more prepared coach. I'm not sure if any in the league can match Belichek at that...even his waddling disciples. Of course without Brady, Belichek couldn't even prepare himself into the playoffs last year. ;)

If the Jets play hard, Jet fans will be happy. We are not in the Patriot's class...yet.

Hang in there. I like what your team is doing. That defense of yours is good. In a year, they will be SCARY!

On offense, if there is any way possible to get Leon Washington the ball more, I'd advise that. He is one heckuva talent!

I can't wait for Sunday.

I could never imagine Belichick calling me and leaving a voicemail asking me to cheer loudly for the Patriots.

I guess this is want is needed to sell their PSL's at the new GIANTS stadium.

As for Kerry Rhoades, he is a very good player, we'll see who is embarrassed.

The Jets remind me of the Mets and Islanders, bastard child franchises who aren't as popular as their big brothers who continue to cling to championships that happened so far in the past no one remembers. Now that is an embarrassment.

Wow, the Jets really got your goat, huh? As you said, they're a meaningless franchise compared to all that your boys have accomplished up there. The Jets care so much about the Patriots because they're the team to beat when they have Brady.

But to the Patriots, the Jets are just another team. Interesting that such a meaningless team can provoke such animosity...not to mention cute little signs. ;)

Better be careful when talking about team popularity though. Only one of these two teams had a ton of home games blacked out not that long ago, the smallest crowds in the NFL, and almost moved to Hartford...and it's not the Jets. The Patriots are popular now when they're winning, but the Jets have always sold out...even when they are bad.

Gotta wonder what will happen up there when this cycle runs out, the Patriots stop winning Super Bowls, and people start caring more about the Bruins again. ;)

Oh, and I fixed the name up in your post. :p
