Replacing DVR Procedure?

I am getting a replacement 722k for my old 722k & was wondering if there are any suggestions on how to properly do this. I am aware of individual steps but never saw a step-by-step procedure & don't want to overlook something that may seem obvious.

1) Backup recordings to an EHD. I already bought a 1TB WD.
2) Backup DVR settings to the remote. It seem this does not work for some people. Anything tricky about this step?
3) Plug in replacement DVR. Do I have to call Dish & this unit authorized?

Once the replacement is authorized does that mean the old one is shut down? What if I have to go back to the old one in order to get a recording I missed or if the settings did not get transferred to the remote? Am I basically out of luck?

Do the timers also get transferred to the remote?

Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I always had to reset timers. It's pretty much plug and play. You do have to have the receiver authorized but you can do it online. Once the new one is authorized the old one is turned off. You can still access the recordings on the DVR tho.

If the unit is replaced, any recordings on the deactivated unit is lost. Also, if the first 722 is leased and replaced, Dish will want it back.

Note: just wondering why you would be replacing the receiver? Is there is something wrong with it?

All of the replacements I received had a big fold out sheet with step by step procedures and tags to put on each of the cables connected to the back of the receiver. So I don't know what has changed.
What I would do is swap all the cable, etc then call Dish. They can then step you through the procedures to lock onto a sat and then download the software to your new receiver and then activate it

There are four cables on the back of the unit. Take them off and attach them to the new unit in the same manner. Call dish and activate or go online to mydish.com login and goto equipment and click authorize on the replacement unit.

It's a little more complicated than that. First he'll have to do a check switch. Then a point dish. Find a sat in his arc and lock in and then say done. At that point the software download should begin. Once it's complete he should be able to get channel 100. At that point he may get a prompt to call Dish to activate.

Thanks for all the replies.

Swapping cables is no problem. My primary concern is when & who do I call to activate the new DVR. I sounds like I'll be prompted at some time during the install process.

Presuming I've properly downloaded the old settings to the remote, at what point do I transfer these to the new DVR?

I was just reading this about backing up settings to the remote.

It mentions about backing up remote settings. But they’re already in the remote. So where are they being backed up to?

If I did replace a remote when I replaced the DVR, how do I get the remote settings copied over to the new remote?

The only remote setting I can think of is having it control the A/V receiver’s volume. What other setting would be in the remote?

I was reading through the User's Guide & on page 86 it has instructions on using the Recover button on remote 2. I never paid attention to this because I never had to recover anything. Where is the Recover button located because I don't find it on my remote?

The recover button is no longer in use and is not on our new remotes.

I tried backing up my old Remote 1 to the old Remote 2 just to see how this works. I went through all the steps on Remote 1 and backed up the DVR & Remote. I then tried to restore the remote settings to Remote 2 which I never configured to do anything.

I can access the Wizard as shown here & get to step 3. But I can never get any option to Restore.

Selecting Continue brings me back to live TV.
Selecting Advanced takes me to the screen with the backup options.

How do I restore Remote 1 settings to Remote 2?

I got the new DVR up & running & tried to restore the DVR settings which I previously backed up into the old Remote #1.

But I do not get any Restore option. The Wizard says the remote is configured properly. I'm given 2 choices: Continue to watch TV or Advance which only has an option to backup. Nothing to restore.

Any suggestions?
