Remote lag

Switched from Dish about one month ago and the Genie remote lag is already getting on my nerves. Sometimes I have to press a button multiple times just to get it to display something. Disabled scroll effects but it is still slow. Not even talking about clients, these are totally unacceptable, esspecially if you enable parent control as I did on one client. I expected it to be slower than Hopper after reading reviews but had no idea it would be this slow. Hopper remote response time is a light year ahead of Genie. Is there anything I can do to make it acceptable? Would a universal remote work better? Any usefull tips?

try the following on the remote:

1. dtv
2. press and hold MUTE & SELECT, wait for two blinks, release
3. enter 9 6 3
4. press CH DOWN
