Recording with new software

I've read the instructions... but I can't figure this out. When I am scrolling through the channel guide and I see a program I want to record... I hit the select button and it brings up the record screen. I then tab over and select ONCE and set the timer... it then says something like "searching for all the shows that match your criteria"... or something like that... but I only requested one show one time! Then I find out there is a timer set up for ALL for every instance of the show... when I only wanted it once! What am I doing wrong?
