I want to thank all those who have been giving advice here on the HD drive. I picked one up today and here is what I found so far.
-----------------------------------
I picked up a WD 1 TB SATA hd.
It was named WD Caviar Green since it is the eco-friendly drive. no Samsung HD drives in this area.
Took it out of the box and put it in the Azbox Premium Plus receiver.
Hooked the connector wiring (That I saw was in the azbox under the top panel) up to the drive and put the cover back on.
Then went into the settings menu to Storage.
The device was recognized by the az-box and when asked to format it proceeded to format the drive.
(I did not remember if I saw anything on the screen saying format in “FAT” system, but I knew that is what I wanted to do so I left the receiver format the WD internal HD.
It took less then 15 minutes to format the 1tb drive.
I just followed the directions on the screen. I did not power off the receiver at anytime but left the receiver reboot when it wanted to do so.
Since I an not technically inclined by any means, I was surprised at how easy this was to do so far.
No manual to go by here so I had/have no idea how to record anything and no instructions from anyone with the exception of this thread so this was a learn as you go process.
I went into the menu button and highlighted the record and hit enter.
The menu that was on the TV screen came up automatically with the time for the recording of the program.
I was on a movie channel and the movies was in progress so I just hit ok and enter.
It is recording.
To delete a recorded program:
Hit the menu button
Arrow down 4 times to “Recorded program” hit “ok”
Your recorded programs should now appear in a box on your screen.
Arrow to the program you want to delete and using the “check” button hit ok and
a check mark will now appear next to the ones you want to delete.
Now hit the “Menu” button and a box appears with…
Play Selection
Select All
Cancel all
Delete Selection
Delete all.
In my case I had 2 earlier very small recordings when first testing the drive.
I checked 2 out of 3 on my list and then highlighted “Delete Selection”.
Another box came up with…
Information
2 recorded file has been selected
would you like to delete?
Yes No
The yes was already highlighted so hit ok.
The 2 files are now gone leaving only one program left.
The receiver will display the channel name under the programming and the date recorded so at this point that is all I have to go by.
I need to find out if there is a way to rename these files to what was actually recorded,
but if I can get this far then anyone should be able to do this.
To change the name I found you go to settings > file manager > arrow to TV Record
put a check on the one you want to rename, then hit the ‘Menu” button which will now have the Rename option for the file.
all this in under 1 hour.
Then I remembered someone said something about setting up the time on the receiver so I just finished that part now.
------------------------------------------------------------
I have checked out the recorded programs or at least part of them and so far it appears everything is working just fine.
The drive is not getting hot for me either, as Radar mentioned the Green drives you can hardly hear the thing.
I know I can't.
I just put this down as I was doing it so hopefully it will make it easier for the next person. Now I can get another drive for my ultra box.
Even though I could not find the brand mentioned by Radar I did ask if it was supported by the Linux system and was told it did.
this model number is WD10000CSRTL
