Receiver Tracking Question

I am curious to know if any technology exists that would provide the location of receivers that are moved from one location to another.

Must a technician physically tap into a building line to track receivers that are running off it or can it be done remotely or via the airways somehow....

How does Direct TV do it in order to protect themselves from people moving residential receivers to a business location ??

they cant.....i know plenty of people who have receivers labeled as bedroom and they are at their cabins or in relatives homes, etc...
