Hey fellas, quick and simple question:

What number does a Dish 811/942 receiver dials out when 'calling home' ??? is it user configurable ???

I'm moving to a VoIP only phone system, but will still keep a bare-bones, metered phone line because of my DSL service. I need to know if the 811/942 dials to a toll-free number (perfect since toll-free numbers are, well, free :p) or to a local number (bad because SBC's metered service charges like $0.10 per call, per minute).

It is indeed a toll free number, though I'm not sure what it is. Some VoIP boxes will do it, some won't, and some require *99 as a prefix, which some dish boxes won't let you do.

So yeah, whatever works :)

Previous posters are correct it is a toll free number.

Guys if you would read the OP entire post he was asking because he is swithing his regular phone service to metered where they charge you for calling out. He was not asking if VOIP would work for the receiver.
