Winter World Series edition:
1. This is the longest a regular season loss has left a knot in my stomach in a long time.
2. I'm sure Boeckman will play more now that the national title chase is over.
3. Big 12 scores look like they come out of games played on EA Sports, not a real football field.
4. Rangers 9-2-1, with a humiliated Thrashers team coming to the Garden next, and then games against the Leafs and the AHL-landers. Should be staring at 12-2-1, or 11-2-2 right? I bet when the smoke clears we'll have lost two of these next three.
5. Hey Bud, are there any other rules you haven't told us about?
6. Thanks to Sabres for posting that pic of Henrik. That was niiiiiiiiiiiiiice!
7. This sums up Eli Manning in a nutshell. Fourth and one on the Steeler 29, the Giants call a timeout. Back from commercial, Eli is still confused, wants to call another timeout but can't because you can't call two timeouts in a row. After all that time, the Giants have to take a five yard delay penalty, so now it's fourth and six...huge difference. Against the vaunted Steeler defense. In Pittsburgh with the place going nuts. In the fourth quarter. Eli has the 'deer in the headlights' look going on again. And he drops back to pass and drops a gorgeous 30 yard pass into the arms of Amani Toomer. Amazing.
8. No, I don't want John Cooper back.
9. So Greg Oden couldn't even make it through one game?
10. Seems weird to watch the Lakers without Rony Turiaf cheering from the sidelines.
11. So glad the NBA is back. These guys play for keeps.
12. The Yankees are going to spend like drunken sailors in the off-season.
13. Their best pitcher was pitching in their home park with a lead in a game that could have won them the series. But there is no way the baseball Gods were going to allow that. Phillie fans will have to endure another 24 or 48 hours, and perhaps a lot longer than that.
14. I know stupid stuff happens everywhere, but Philadelphia fans seem to take it to another level. At the games in Philly we have grandmothers of Rays' players being cursed at, little girls getting food thrown at them, and Rays players deciding they don't want their families at the games out of concern for their safety. Joe Maddon even has to speak to it at a press conference. Again, it happens everywhere, but it's always seems to be worse in Philly.
15. I'm thinking Penn State isn't really that good, and could pull an 'Ohio State' in a national championship game.
16. The Warriors won't be the same withoug Baron Davis.
17. Who do you think the Suns would rather have now...Shaq or Shawn Marion?
18. Just joined a gym, since my triathlon training is on the back burner until March. I'll still swim/bike/run a couple of times a week, but throw in alternate training as well, like aerobic machines, weight training and cardio classes. It's weird...the classes are mostly girls, they gym area is mostly guys. Looks like I'll be in the gym a lot...
19. Not into those shockingly muscular guys, though. They just don't look normal. Give me a tall, athletic, good looking guy in good shape instead.
20. Here is my take...if the Heat struggle under Spoelstra, Riley stays away. If they're in playoff contention, he's back on the bench by February.
21. Wow Phil Jackson looks a lot different without facial hair.
22. I feel bad for the Sutter kid, but the way he was skating, all bent over reaching for the puck for a few strides...it was a concussion waiting to happen.
23. Patrick Kaleta, meet Milan Lucic. The bigger, stronger, more talented, harder hitting (and two years younger) version of you.
24. Three great games at almost the same time last night, Avalanche/Flames, Bruins/Canucks and Penguins/Sharks. Shame the 'lanche/Flames wasn't in HD, but my remote got more of a workout than I did at the gym earlier in the evening.
25. Nice audition by Lebron last night for his Knicks contract.
26. Mike D'Antoni, please bring us back to respectability. Please. Don't listen to Eddie Curry, who seems to be the only person in NY surprised he's starting the season out of the rotation.
27. Funny seeing Vinny Del Negro last night, in his first game as head coach, with Bernie Bickerstaff and Del Harris on either side of him. That's like putting your kid on a bike for the first time but having Greg Lemond and Lance Armstrong riding right alongside, just in case.
28. Well it finally happened, Cloris Leachman was voted off. I thought it was turning a little too much into 'Comedy with the Stars', actually.
29. Wow Brooke Burke. Surprised there is no love for her here from the guys. Very pretty, and oh my can she dance.
30. Californication makes me laugh more often than Entourage right now. Entourage is still more laugh-out-loud funny at times, but Californication is more consistent. Hank Moody rivals Ari Gold as one of the best characters on television. Please no spoilers, I'm a little behind...I just watch the Joshua Tree episode of Entourage, and the Californication episode where Hank was bailed out of jail.
31. I also watched Volver, with Penelope Cruz. Very good movie. Penelope is another gorgeous woman I'm surprised guys don't fawn over here. You may want to watch Volver, it's not only good but a virtual cleavage festival for Ms. Cruz.
