1. It's sooooooo nice being married.
2. Congratulations to Ramy on his upcoming nuptials. I've said it before and it bears repeating...the key to a successful marriage is...spoiling your wife!
3. The NFL lockout is like a stock that has reached it's support level. If it breaks through support, the stock will most likely drop to it's next support level. If the NFL deal doesn't get done in the next few days, they'll most likely start losing pre-season games...and the next support level/deadline is the regular season.
4. Pre-season NBA games are irrelevant and do not generate much income. The lowest NBA support level/deadline is January.
5. Albert Haynesworth, Antwaan Randle-El, Adam Archuleta...I'm thinking the Redskins should steer clear of free agents Ahmad Bradshaw and Antonio Cromartie!
6. If the deal is ratified in the next day or two, it will bring the most frenzied free agent signing period we've ever seen in any sport. There will be signings like every 20 seconds.
7. For me, Ohio State being a non-factor this season will be kind of like when the Rangers miss the playoffs. It sucks, but the bright side is you can relax and watch the rest of the teams play without the stress of worrying about your team every week.
8. The back of the rotation starting pitching for the Yankees this season has been absolutely amazing. Let's hope it keeps up, and that Phil Hughes can get back to his former self as well.
9. You can have Pujols, give me Prince Fielder. He can be our Big Fat Papi-type DH for the next 10 years. I know that doesn't really work since A-Rod is probably 3-5 years away from being a full-time DH himself, but I don't care. Make it happen. Fielder would be a terrific Yankee.
10. Is boxing still a sport?
11. It'll be very interesting if NBA players flock to Europe the same way NHL players flocked to Russia's KHL hockey league in 2006, but anyone who thinks they'll stay there for good is outside their mind. If Europe were a better alternative to the NBA, players would already be in Europe. Basketball will always be a mere blip on the radar screen (or to quote Mad Dog Russo, a pimple on the fanny!) compared to soccer in Europe.
12. Speaking of soccer...we were in Myrtle Beach with my nephew for the AAU national basketball championships last week, watching the women's world cup together, and it was so funny to watch a bunch of 16 year old boys fall in love with Hope Solo! Granted Hope is a good looking girl, but personally I thought the striker that came on as a substitute, Alex Morgan, was the prettiest girl on the team. But when they showed her on camera the boys said nothing...what's up with that?
13. Seems like the Giant fan who was beaten in the parking lot at Dodger Stadium has taken a turn for the worse. Such a shame. I hope the animal who did this to him is brought to justice soon.
14. OK I have to keep it real...as evil as Michael Vick was before he was found out, he seems to be doing everything right since he was released.
15. European soccer players get paid an awful lot of money, but they have virtually no off-season. Their season ends in May/June, starts again in late August, and right now there are teams like Real Madrid and Manchester United touring the USA playing local sides and MLS all-star teams. That's a lot.
16. The Nationals and Braves have a sick amount of prospects headed to the big team. The Phillies are the Phillies. Gonna be a long road for the Mets, with or without Reyes.
17. So funny being the only 'white' team in our division at the AAU tournament. There were some white players on other teams, but I'm pretty sure we were the only totally white team. We actually sensed that many of the neutral fans were rooting for our team because we were such an oddity! The ironic thing is that there are two black players on the team, but they couldn't make the trip for different reasons. One just moved locally and the family couldn't work it out, and the other had to stay home for high school football practice...and unfortunately all of his rebounds stayed home with him!
18. So, one of those second baseman won that home run derby thing after all.
19. Rachel Uchitel is not ugly.
20. Nice to see some new names posting here recently. Gets old having the same discussions with the same old knuckleheads! (present company included!)
21. Yay Breaking Bad is back on! Haven't watched any new episodes yet...please no spoilers!
22. OK, if I were a betting person (and I totally am not!), here is the system I would use. Whenever a major league team won or lost three games in a row, I would ride that winning or losing streak until it ends. Seems like so many teams grow to 5-10 game (or more) winning or losing streaks.
23. Did anyone see Stephen Drew break his ankle on the slide into home last night? I was watching it live...frightening to say the least. His foot was pointed the wrong way, and he tried to put it back in place. We will not see him for quite a while. On almost the very next play, Carlos Gomez fractured his collar bone making a nice catch in center field. The D-Backs announcers were noticeably shaken.
24. Anyone watch the Curt Flood special on HBO?
25. Socastee High School, just south of Mytrle Beach, has the most amazing murals in a gymnasium I've ever seen. Their team is called the Braves, and they have a huge paronamic painting of a bunch of warriors with spears surfing to shore, that surrounds a lot of the court. They also have a few other terrific warrior paintings.
26. There are also some absolutely huge high school football stadiums in the South. My goodness.
27. The ending of Friday Night Lights was so amazing that my husband and I are now going to watch all five seasons together. We are about six episodes into season one, and I HIGHLY recommend this to everyone. I didn't start watching until halfway throught the first season, I think, when so many critics mentioned it as one of the best shows at the end of the calendar year. What an amazing show. I'm falling in love with Matt Saracen all over again!
28. Go Pirates! Finishing over .500 would be wonderful. Winning the division would be priceless! Pirate fans deserve it.
29. Iman Shumpert. Still not feeling it.
30. You'll never know what it's like to go to Hooters with a bunch of 16 year old boys until you actually do it. And how Hooters girls react to a bunch of 16 year old boys. Goodness gracious!!!
Stay cool.
Sandra
