Hi I just recently got an R15. Working in the computer industry I know HDs can and WILL fail. I've noticed that it seems the R15 leaves the HD running 24/7, recording or not recording, standby or on. This HD will fail sooner or later.

Does anyone know if I were to make a "forensic quality" ghost image of the HD, and dump to a new 160GB hd (any brand), will the box recognize the drive? I know sofar no one has been able to upgrade to a large drive, I'm just curious about replacing with the same size at this point.

I also bought myself a 2nd R15 just before the lease program started, and will keep it put away incase of hardware failures of my current box. I’m curious if the HD from one R15 can be put into a different R15, or are the HDs locked to their original box with some kind of encryption or whatnot.

The R15s are too new at this point for people to have a lot of these answers.

That's why I'm sticking with my (hacked) S2 DTivos - I have 3 of them running and 2 in reserve... at least I know what I can do with those.
