Questions about a possible return to Dish

I am a former Dish customer (from 12/2000 to 04/2012) and never had anything less than AT120, most of the time had AT200. I'm considering a return to Dish due to difficulty with OTA (terrain issues) and had a few questions.

I'm aware of the current promotions, but ultimately I'm interested in what my normal monthly bill would be.

I have one HD tv and one SD tv. Previously I had the DuoDVR625. With what I have, I think I'd be better off with a VIP722k rather than a Hopper/Joey, considering the fees. It's not a must to have to have the SD tv connected, I rarely watch that one and don't see myself upgrading it to an HD anytime soon. However I do like the option of being able to record two programs at the same time.

Just wondering what you guys think would be my best option. The VIP722k fee is $10/mo., if I read the Dish website correctly, with the Hopper being $12/mo. and a Joey $7/mo., so $10/mo. vs $19/mo. is considerable. Maybe I could get just the Hopper for the HD and not worry about the SD? Like I said, I do like the option of recording 2 shows at once. How many channels can I record at the same time with just a Hopper?

I'd get the Top 200 pack to get me through football season and probably drop back to the 120after the promo period, depending on how much Dish increases their package prices next year. What would be the best/cheapest option? Are there any other fees besides the receiver fees that I'm not aware of (besides a regional sports fee and sales taxes, which are both BS, but beside the point)?

I appreciate your help.

If you have only the one 722, there is no charge for the receiver. The dvr fee would be $7 for the 722. The Hopper would allow you to record 3 programs at the same time unless you are recording the big four networks, then it would be six.

I have a VIP722k, and "America's Top 120" pack at present. My total monthly fee's for that is:

My Current Services
America's Top 120
$59.99
DVR Service
$7.00
HD Free For Life (reg $10)
$0.00
Monthly Charges
$66.99

I have some referrals of people that started accounts with a referral from me, and that subtracts $5.00 a month EACH off that regular monthly amount. So, my bill is actually lower right now until the referrals expire. Using a referral number from a present Dish customer will give YOU $50.00 off your first months bill.

I believe the AT200 price before the discount is $74.99, so if you went that route, the regular everyday price would be $74.99+$7= $81.99 +taxes. Not sure what the current discounts are for new connects, but substantially less. That said, if you want to snag a referral number, take one out of my signature there, and that should get us each an additional $50 off.

I saw Scott say he might take them away... But I never saw anything about it becoming official just yet. I was going to weather the storm, being one of the last on board.

Thanks guys. With only a $7 DVR fee on the 722, is the fee with only the Hopper (no Joey) $12? Does that $12 cover everything, or is there an additional DVR fee on top of that?

My parents currently have Dish, in fact I referred them when I still had it, so I'll let them return the favor if I decide to subscribe. I assume being a former subscriber would have no bearing on the referral credits?

If you have been gone long enough that your account was purged, then you should be fine to use referal certs

I think it's still 3 months away to be considered a "new" customer, so you're fine.

Thanks again, you guys are great. I'm trying to decide between the 722 and the single Hopper. Can someone explain exactly what I can do with the Hopper that I can't with the Duo722? garys said that I could record 3 shows at once with the Hopper, six if I were recording the big 4 nets. I just would like to know exactly what I could do with it to see if it would be worth the extra $5/mo. vs the 722.

Netflix, built in sling, transfer content to mobile device, larger recording capacity, more tuners, more ability to grow it throughout the home.

But no cheap way to give yourself a second TV2 outlet other than duplicating what's already being displayed on TV1.

And oh by the way, my 722 w/Sling Adapter allows me to view stuff on my EHD which (correct me if I'm wrong) is impossible with a Hopper.

I can record on a single Hopper what I needed two 722's to record before I got the Hopper.

He wouldn't get a "Hopper" today, he'd get a "Hopper With Sling." So no need for the adapter.

That isn't the point of what Krell said. The built-in sling of the Hopper can't watch EHD content while a 722 with a Sling Adapter can.

Not to mention my main point, which is two independent outlets with a Hopper would cost $12 + $7 every month, while the 722 can do this for only $7/mo. Note that the OP says he has an SD TV and no immediate prospect to replace it with an HDTV.

Pandora, VEVO, Netflix, and transfer are 4 big ones that do make the price worth it for me. This is just about what value each individual puts on what they want to do specifically. I, personally, would hate to go back to a 722, although some here would hate to move up because the features are not worth it to them. No matter how it is argued, we could all be wrong and Claude could be right(doubtful) and the Genie is better. Just depends on preferences.

Hopper (w/ sling) freezing a lot lately
