question on PI channels

Are so called PI channels free to view without any dishnetwork subscription?
I`m watching all those channels now and I don`t have a subscription. I`m just curious as to why dishnetwork leaves them open. Thanks guys!!

Because they are PI channels and they are required to.

Public Interest channels and last I checked you did need a subscription to something to get those. Unless during the last glitch Dish changed something

The only PI channels I get are NASA and Angel One on a previously subbed box
