I have a couple of questions about a new computer I just got. I know, I should know these answers, but I don't work on computers much anymore, and don't upgrade my computers but about once every 4 or 5 years. I do mostly Sys-Admin and Server installs. :)

We have had a change-over of computers at our house/office, and I got a new computer today to run the SkyStar 2 satellite tuner.

Course it has the Intel Express Integrated video, but I have a GeForce 6600 PCIe card that I have put in it.

In the Bios, there is not a place to disable the integrated video, but I did set it to use the PCIe as the Primary Video.

There is a setting for DVMT to be 128 or 256, and the aperture size to be 128 or 256.

How should I set those since I am not going to be using them?

FYI, in the device manager, the Intel integrated video card doesn't show up, so have I in fact disabled it?

Second major question.

It has an integrated Sigma Tel High Definition Audio, whatever that is.

How important is the sound when primarily using this computer for Satellite Tuning/High Definition Channels?

I have a SB Live PCI that I can put in it.

Should I just leave the integrated audio as is, or disable it, and put in the SB Live sound card?

Thanks for your advice!

None of the boards I have purchased in the last 3-4 years have had the "disable video" in the bios. They just automatically disable if another video is detected. In fact if you forget and plug your display into the on board video, you won't get any video out of it. I don't know how any of the"higher end" boards work if they have advanced video chip sets that support multiple displays.

What do you intend to do with the audio? Straight to the TV or to a surround sound receiver? I think I would try the on board audio first, you may be impressed. Try to keep that slot open for..... there is always something else!

That appears to be the case since the onboard doesn't show up in the device manager.

Probably straight to the TV, but would leave the option open to go to the surround sound.

I will leave it as is for now and give the onboard sound a try. :)

Thanks for the information!!
