Note that the DVR must remain hooked up to the antenna for this to be true.You can still watch recordings already on your receiver when the service is paused.
It isn't remotely fair to compare a 508 (a litigation DVR, I might add) with a ViP series DVR.I have never tried with a VIP series, but you can watch the recordings on a 508 with no antenna attached.
But as TommyF also pointed out, the DVR will need to be connected. Authorization doesn't immediately expire with the disconnect of the antenna.The DVR works and all the recording are viewable when it is NOT connected to the antenna.
