I wanted to put a dual output LNBF on my Direcway dish, so I ordered the Dual KU 0.4db LNBF from Sadoun. Since then, I've read on these forums that it might not work on that dish, because it's an oval dish and not a round dish?

Is that correct? Does an eliptical dish require a different LNB/LNBF than the one I got? I see that the feedhorn on the DW dish is oval. I guess I was thinking I could remove that and the LNB and stick the new LNBF in its place. Now I'm thinking that won't work.

So, does anyone know what I need to do, or not do?

Thanks as always for all the useful guidance I get here.

I'd try it and see how it works. The feedhorn is usually matched to the dish for optimum performance, you may/may not be able to tell any difference with the new one.

if you have already ordered and got it then try it
my experince with the primestar dish is the feedhorn is matched to the dish and replacing it still gets good signal just not better than the original lnbf
hence sometimes a .08 lnbf is just as good as a .04 or .03 lnbf

now the directway dish i don't know about.

EDIT : I see Turbo already posted :)

You guys are fast! ;) Ok, since I have the LNBF, I'll try it and see how the numbers change. I just didn't want to waste my time if it wasn't going to work at all.

Thanks

I was about to test-drive this oval feedhorn 'n LNB on my DirecWay dish.
But then the rains came (piddly dribble, compared to many places), and then two BUDs fell into my lap, so I got kinda sidetracked.
Not likely to get back to it any time soon. :(

The LNB/horn is from Global-CM, and should be a better match to the low 'n wide DirecWay dish.
Or that was my theory.

Let us know what results you get on your more traditional LNB.
But do start out on a very strong satellite.

I use Sadoun duals on my Primestar dishes. You might have to gut the casing behind the LNB to get the 25mm LNB shaft

You don't happen to have a pic of this do you? You're talking about the casing on the new LNBF right?

Thanks.

yes the casing off the LNB...right behind the eye. Use a clamp to bolt it to the dish

here is a better view of what a LNB would look like with that casing missing (different LNB but same concept)

Thanks for the photos ice, very helpful.

BTW, what satellites are you getting with the two LNBs on that dish? Is that 4 degrees? Both linear?

that was 74 & 79...that dish has been moved to 123W now

but it was for SBS6 & AMC5 on one dish :)

Do you think you could do 4 degrees on that dish with those LNBFs, or is 5 degrees the closest together you can get?

I think 4 if its DBS but 5 if KU

I did have at one point 123/119 and due to 119 being so strong it works just fine ( see pic below) but I did try 105/101 KU on a dish and could only get 3ABN (which is very strong) at about a 30 quality on the Pansat...I could get 105/111 with ease (and a piece of wood to get the angle right...the LNB eyes were touching)

2nd pic was my gangetr ghetto 119/123/129 setup...119 & 129 were DBS
