I've been through a bit of a saga with my Mac Mini recently with a series of issues which ended up exactly where I told Apple the problem was -- the logic board. This isn't going to be about my issues with them; that's fodder for another thread.
I was reminded of the necessity to keep backups of your systems. I'm diligent about keeping backups of my system, and suggest that you do so as well. Apple makes it pretty easy with Time Machine and thankfully I had been keeping my backups current.
Without them, well I'd be rebuilding everything. With them, I lost a little work -- but nothing that is irreplaceable.
I guess the moral of the story is this:
We take backups in the hope that we never need them -- but when you need them, that's not the best time to say "Damn, I should have been doing backups".
