i just installed a new oval 3 LNB dish about a month ago so i could receive my local channels. all the other channels seem to come in ok almost all the time, but the local channels come in sometimes and at other times do not. when they are not coming in, i get a message on bottom of screen that says "for ordering information call ext 721". some times they come in perfect and at other times, they will come and go as if there were storms in the area (when there are none). i have tried peaking the dish by moving all the adjustments (vertical, horiz, and tilt) and it seems like i have it peaked. i am not an installer, just a user of the system, although i installed this new oval dish myself so i can get the locals channels in my area.

Have you called D* to enquire about your subscription status on your locals and if they have had any outages? It happens time to time, but usually not with the x721 msg.

checked with directv

thanks for the reply. i have had direct tv on the phone a few times. they walked me through several things, and it seems to be something with my setup but they are not sure. they sent me a knew card to install, as that was the next thing on their checklist to do after they tried all the other things. i have been reluctant to put in the new card but maybe i should.

it seems to me it is dish alignment, but like i said, i have done my best to peak it and it seems to be right. i checked the signal strength on the three satellites A, B, C. some of the transponders are 100% and most are 85 to 95. but there are a few transponders that are in the 60s and 70s. i tried to peak them but cannot get them higher. i am getting the channels as i write this, but who knows later they may not come in. both when they are out and when they are on, the signal strength seems to be the same.

like i said i am a novice so my trouoble shoot ability is limited.

Well any time a signal drops or the station blacks out, I have never received a non-subscription message.

Yes, I would change out the card ASAP.

Be aware that some transponders are naturally weaker or stronger than others so don't let that concern you much. However, the local spot beams are supposed to be some of the strongest signals, so if one of the super-pros reads this thread maybe they can determine which bird and transponder you should tweak your dish on for best results.

Are your locals on 101? The main bird. I assumed not.

It would be nice if you gave us signal strengths off the 119 satellite when the locals are coming in and when they aren't.
