Problem with FM Modulator

Perhaps I am missing something. I have the older JVC PNP (KT-SR1000) which uses the older car cradle (KS-K6002). I live in New Jersey and am having the same reception problems as mentioned above (too much interference in the NYC metro area on all 4 frequencies). I followed the instructions, ordered the hard wire (112C3159) from Audiovox and installed. However the JVC manual instructs this to be connected to the FM Out terminal on the back of the car cradle. IT DOESN'T FIT THERE! It only fits the AUX Out terminal. The hard wire is a mini and the FM Out terminal is a sub-mini. (I only just learned the difference at my local radio shack.) Can I just connect a mini to sub-mini adapter? Didn't anyone else have this issue? Please advise
