Save th show from PTAT to your "my recordings" folder. You should then be able to save to EHD.

You have to save it to My Recordings and then wait for the show to lapse out of PTAT (8 days). Then you are able to save it to your EHD...

After further investigation it gets more strange. On the EHD transfer screen when sorted by Folders it doesn't list any (older than 8 days) prime time shows at all but when I switch the sort to No Folders it lists a few but not all. When changing the other sort from DVR Date to A-Z different shows appear for on the list. All the lists no matter the sort criteria are incomplete, even omitting non prime time shows. In fact on all the lists there is a vertical scroll bar that seems to indicate more content that won't display when scrolling up and down.
I've never seemd to have a problem transferring the things I've wanted to transfer, which have been mostly movies, but I can see where it could be a big deal if you have to move your unwatched shows off the HWS if you have a problem and need to replace the unit.

You don't have to wait 8 days. Save the shows you want to the internal hard drive. Then delete the show from PTAT. Then you can move it to your EHD.
So you're saying that it's possible to delete a show from PTAT? It didn't work before, and it was never designed to do that.
You can delete it from the ptat folder but your hd space won't free up till its purged from the hd a few days later.
You can also shorten the retention time to a few days from the default 8.
I have not tested but it was said that the shows remain for a while after the retain time subject to delete for more space.
Personally I do not have a retain time as I set PTAT to the minimum 1 channel, 1 day to get AutoHop, and move the day from "today".
I specify the shows that I want to keep and that's it.
