Price Changes and HD packages on dish website

The pricing does not make any sense to me. It is a $10 jump from 100 to 100+. Then from 100+ to 200 it is only $2 jump. Then from 200 to 250 it is another $10 jump. Does this make sense to anyone? I guess I am just now noticing this. I guess it has been this way for awhile now.

There have been number of posts in the past couple of months dealing with what is the most popular package, etc. The pricing might be an attempt to drive people to the 200 level as a minimum so Dish can leverage some programming contracts. I'm not so sure this would be a good thing, but I can't discount the clues that keep pointing to 200 as being the "sweet" spot for Dish's Corporate Office.

I'm curious how the NHL Network plays into this. I'd prefer not to go with that premier pack. I have center ice tho, would that give me the NHL Network in HD? There is an cneter ice version of this channel.

My guess is that the $20 HD package includes:
15 Vooms
HD Theater
Universal
NHL Network
NBATV
MHD

OR

$10 Pack:
Simulcasts

$20 Pack:
13 Vooms
HD Theater
Universal
NHL Network
NBATV
HDNET
MHD
MOJO

$30 Pack:
HDNet Movies
FilmFest
World Cinema
MGM
Showtime
Cinemax
HBO

"the best price for the largest selection of channels"

But what I really want is the smallest price for the best selection of channels.

That would take a lot of work on Dish's part to negotiate that kind of deal. I believe ALL providers, i.e. cable, satellite, IPTV, etc, have the same arrangement: Subscribe to a premium movie package and the HD channel(s) are "free" or included (with the right equipment).

Now I'm starting to wonder what HD channels are simulcasted and in what base package they're in. For example, HGTV, Discovery, TLC are in what base package ? Someone could figure out which base package gets the most add'l HD channels for the added $10.

My problem - question - is - what satellite(s) would you need to see to get the $10 HD channels of the SD ones I subscribe to. I have the AT250. I can only see 119/110. Are those HD channels spread over different sats?

outta left field

How about if the $30 HD pack gives your a certain number of VOD downloads? Like Vudu or Netflicks, except downloaded right to the 722/622?

So for $29.95, you get the simulcasts of what you subscribe to, an extra $10 adds the HD-only channels, and an extra $10 adds access to two VOD movies a month or something like that?

There is no reason, technically, that Dish could not have the 722 in particular with VuDu or netflicks online.

Just speculating?

Could also be that the $30 level gives you everything commercial HD (not premium), whether you subscribe to the proper SD package or not.

Just to throw in another monkey wrench. Neither Food-HD nor HGTV-HD are simulcasts. They show different programming, or at least time and date shift of what is on the SD versions. Distinct possibility that they could go in the middle tier.

This is gonna really bite if I wind up having to pay $10 more to keep what I already get with AEP + HD. That's $15 a month extra!

I hope Charlie's strategy treats his existing subs well. I had to think long & hard to justify $20 for the HDpack, and am generally happy. If the $30 tier penalizes or takes away from me what I already have for $20, the straw on the camel's back gets pretty heavy.

If DISH charges 29.99 for an HD package that is just like the 20 we pay now then they are stupid. They have less HD channels than D* and would be charging twice as much. I would be paying 15 more than last year with AEP + Hd. That would be 25 over 2 years. They would lose more customers and I would have to consider downgrading or switching to D* even though I dont want to.

+1

Dish can only get away with the $30 pack if 1) they provide more channels that we don't already have or 2) DirecTV raises the price of they're HD channels

What is wrong with 510 name based recording?
