Hey all,

Still reading up and getting more familiar with VOOM.

My question: Is there any sort of settings I need to change from the default settings on the VOOM receiver straight out of the box? I mean changes in regards to TV programs being presented in 1080i or 480P (I dont have 720P on my TV unfortunately?)

Also, I have noticed that sometimes when shows are presented in HD, the TV screen shrinks, where its like the show in a square box, and then the rest of the screen is just black. Is this normal? I have notice this during some shows, or a show will fit the screen in full, but then when the commercials come up, the screen turns into a smaller square and again the black on the outside of the box. Is there anything that can be done about this? Or is this what they refer to as cropping?

TIA,
Whiteice

whiteice,

I assume you have a 1080i set so I would leave the rez of the stb at 1080i. Only HD programs will fill your screen. Commercials and non-hd programs will not completly fill the screen.

Hi Sean,

Thanks for the reply. When you say leave the STB at 1080i, im assuming you are referring to the Motorolla box? If so, how exactly do I set it for the 1080i, or is it an automatic thing?

TIA,
Whiteice

VOOM Receiver Aspect Ratio

The VOOM receiver can output 1080i, 720p, 480p, 480i or you can have set to auto to choose the naive resolution of the program. All outputs video are active simultaneously - DVI, Component, Composite & S-Video.

To get a standard 1080i output when the top long light (in front of the receiver) is lit, 720p for the next light below it, 480p below that and 480i for the light below that. The next push of the red button puts you in a 'native output' mode (where all lights briefly flash) which will output whatever the resolution of the broadcast is.

Is Voom transmitting in HD color matrix or SD?
