Hello all, I am a current D**** subscriber who has not been happy with all the channel losses over the past 2 years and now I read that my fox 66 station is going bye bye on Wed night at midnight because of failed negotiations...I currently pay $133.09 a monthly for the everything package with a 722k and two 612 receivers...I would like to jump ship and get on board with Directv but not quite sure how to order my setup...My family don't like the idea of sharing recording space so I need advice on what receivers to get so each TV is on its own...Can I order a HR34 HMC for one TV, a HD DVR for my 2nd HDTV and a 3rd just single DVR for our SD TV? Based on the order sheet on the Directv site it says I would pay $99 per receiver which I am ok with because I would get back $210 from the first 3 months savings from the premium package discount...My last question is regarding the SD TV having just the DVR, is this DVR a 2 recorded so I can record 1 show and watch another or do I need a different receiver to do this? Thanks for your imput and I want to order this in next couple weeks before football season starts so can take advantage of the NFL package too

Sounds like the set up your talking about is about right, you can do what you've mentioned, only differences I might think about is getting the last recvr a HD one as well, seeing your already paying for the HD portion regardless of recvr type, your also paying for the DRV portion, so,I would make ALL the recvrs DVR's IF you can handle the money part of it.

As for the HR34, I'm 50/50 on it ... in your case, if you get all HR DVR's, what is the point in getting one with 5 tuners, when you have 6 tuners available thruout the house with the HR24's, instead of the HR34 ... the HR34 is very new yet and still in it's infancy stages.

Either way you'll be covered.

I called to order the HR34 and two HR25's but the quote was too high at $400 so I didn't take the order. I might be confused on how these receivers work so if you can explain a little it might help me decide the right setup.

My goal is to have each of the three rooms setup so they can record at least one program and be able to watch another as they are now and be separated from each other so they only see the recordings that they record themselves.

If I were to get an HR34, a HR25 and a HR24 (non dvr) where would the HR24 get its recording ability from and will it be able to function like the others? I hope I asked this question right.

how many tvs do you want to watch live tv on.
and how many tvs do you want to record on?

an hr34 on the main tv would give 5 tuners to record.
each hr24 would allow 2 tuners, and recording
an h24 or h25 would be able to watch live tv, or view a record from any hr unit

you can use the hr unit for 2 rooms, but iirc, they would have to watch the same channel, as all outputs feed the same thing

first 2 hd recievers are free, then $99 after
the hmc will be $99, the first hd-dvr is another $99, ech other hd-dvr is $199

Would like to watch live TV on all three...Three people

Two TV's are HDTV and one is old SD TV

then i would recomend 1 hmc(hr34), 1 hd-dvr(hr24), and 1 hd receiver (h24 or h25)

initial price should be 198

they would watch live with thier own tuners, and could watch recorded whows from any dvr
to record shows they would use a tuner in a dvr

Skip the HR34. I love mine, but it's not really designed for what you're going for. For your goal, I would just get 3 HR24s. The first one will be free, and the other two will be $99 each, so equipment should only cost $200 instead of the $400 you quoted above. Each TV will have 2 tuners for recording which is what you're used to. Whole-Home DVR is another $3/month, which you don't want if you want to keep the 3 DVRs separate. Even though one of your TVs is SD, you still want the HD-DVR since you may upgrade the TV down the line, and you wouldn't save any money up front by getting an SD-DVR, if such a thing even exists these days.
