I'm looking to switch my Mom over from Dish to DirecTV because the DirecTV programming packages fit her needs better. I do have a few questions about receivers. She doesn't need or want a DVR but she has two HD TVs. She doesn't need to watch two different programs on each TV at the same time so I think she only needs one receiver. I was planning on having one TV hooked up via an HDMI cable and then running a long component cable to the other TV. I have a 75' long component cable (5 RCA connectors on it) that I previously used on an old Dish setup. I was hoping for some advise on the receiver to request. The area I have a concern is the remotes. I know most DirecTV receivers only have IR remote but a RF remote kit can be added. My Mom needs to have a remote to control the receiver at both TVs. Any input would be appreciated. Also if there are referral deals that she could benefit from, I'd be interested in that as well. Thanks

Call D* and inquire about this, this way they come out and supply the dish and all the other stuff needed.
As for what you should look to get, with DVR's not being required, I would see about getting a H24, thats a HD recvr, without a DVR.
Note that not all receivers are able to watch out of the HDMI and component cables at the same time. I was able to do this on my HR24, but the premium/movie channels did not work. It is better to split the HDMI. I am in a similar situation as your mom, and will probably going to a one-receiver system, soon. With an RF remote, she can change the channel from the other room. I can change mine from outside in my car.

I am not worried about the second TV not being able to receive premium/movie channels because my Mom won't be subscribing to them. Regarding the RF remote kit for an HR24, I would assume it comes with a remote. Will the IR remote that comes with the HR24 still work? I had read somewhere that if you hook up a RF remote kit, the receiver will only receive RF signals and not IR signals. If this is the case then won't I need two RF remotes?
There is no kit. The Directv RC65RX remote is RF capable. Regardless if you use the split HDMI or the HDMI and component together, your Directv receiver will be in one room and your mom will be watching it from the other room. If she makes the remote RF for the Genie, it will still work on the Genie in the other room, meaning it will be like there is a receiver in that room. It will not effect the TV, AV1, or AV2 inputs, they will remain IR and only work in the main room. My remote is currently set up this way, thanks to advice on this forum, and it definitely still controls my living room TV power and volume on my Denon unit with my Directv remote.

That would be ideal - should only need one remote, period, for TV in either room. She might need to use the actual TV remote for some things on the second TV, if the AV1 on the Directv remote didn't work for the second TV.

Why are you giving him info on the Genie, he said in the original post that he needs HD, No DVR.
My bad. I am sorry. I have no idea how I missed that. I somehow read it as No-Genie. Do the H2x series remotes work in RF-mode?

There is no component on the H2x (HD receiver, no DVR) series, so splitting the HDMI would be the only option if she wanted to share one receiver on two TVs.

Use a RC65RX remote and set it and the receiver, for rf mode. The receiver will not do both ir and rf at the same time. And program the main tv in tv mode and the second tv in the AV 1 mode.

Yes, the H series will work in RF mode as long as they give them a RF remote in the shipment, not all were back then.
They can always call to have one sent out to yhem if they get one that isn't.
Depends which HD receiver only the OP gets, any receiver other than the H25 works in RF mode with the RF antenna built in, H25 receiver works in RF mode too but needs a separate external RF antenna to go along with the RF remote, Which Directv will provide for you.

In a swm setup, which the Genie requires, there is only one cable from the dish (with a swm lnb) through a power inserter to the Genie. That is unless you are using a swm8 or swm16 switch, which requires four cables from the dish (with a legacy lnb) to the switch.
Total of two cables, one for genie and one for video bridge. Power inserter can be on either of the cables (most of the time with the genie).
