It looks like a pole is the hot ticket for mounting the SG2100. Is 1 5/8" the prefered size for this? How flexible is the mount on a SG2100? Could I go up to maybe a 2" pole for greater strength? Will a 16-17ga pole work for this application? The poles for chain-link fences are fairly cheap and seem like they'd be sturdy enough to do the job.

Cementing the stupid thing in the ground is a whole 'nother problem. Maybe I'll figure out a way to temporarily set it up.

Fence post will be fine, I fill all mine with cement all the way to the top for extra support, If you are putting it in the ground drill a hole through and insert a long bolt or something to stop it rotating.

Good Luck!

Good advice Pete, I also fill mine all the way to the top with cement. I also drill holes about a foot from the bottom and create an "X" with metal rods or rebar to prevent it from rotating before pouring the cement.

I am with you there Dave, the more the better :)
I guess you don't have to go at least 3' (3 feet) deep with them in FL. No frost line to worry about down there I hope :yes

No frost down here either :).

Would it be a waste of time to cement a pole into a 5 gallon bucket? I guess all I'd be out is the $10 for the pole.

If I can make this P* dish work I'm gonna be up and running with a motorized dish / Coolsat 4000 for well under $300 :).

A pole in a bucket may work, but if the wind catches it the dish will move or end up in the next state! Its more temporary fix. I have one here I use now and then but I never leave a dish on it full time just in case.

I love the floor fan stands :).

I am concidering the bucket for temporary use. I think putting the p* out front is going to go over about as well as putting a BUD in the center of my driveway :).

I want to see if I can get a decent look angle with the dish agaist my back fence (north end of the lot). It needs to look over my two story house but I think it'll be ok. It'll just be a pain to run a cable all that way.

Out front will be the easiest install wise - but it'll look out of place. There's also the factor of kids bouncing a ball off of it. HOA isn't a problem. Heck the more I think about it, out front is just making sense.

Maybe you can get it REALLY low. Then paint it or plant some flowers round it (Camouflage it). Its amazing how low they can go. When I first started in satellite I had a one meter dish (same as you motorized) in my front yard and back then people would stop their cars and come in and ask about it : )

That first site is pretty cool. The low mount might work but the far east satellites may be difficult when my neighbor parks his truck right near the property line... not that there is an abundance of FTA on 61.5 anyways :).

If I got it mounted about chest / eyeball level it'd be fine.

I should have my reciever / motor at the end of next week. Between then and now I need to try and figure out how to translate the scale on the mount to what the angle actually is.

I think I'm going to aim a D* dish to whatever the heck bird it uses and note the elevation.

I'll then move the LNB to the modded P* and peak the dish.

I'm thinking I can compare the elevation readings and come up with a correction factor. It may not be exact but it should get me in the ballpark.

My p* 84E is mounted to a wooden pallet. It is painted and on a second story porch so it does not get too wet. I also have a cinder block holding it down.
