In another post, a poster asked about pointing at G10, and among the good replies was a post that stated,

'get close - 127w or so and then move a nudge - 1/8" and scan'

so, having never tried to point a Ku (but a couple of motorized C only) dishes (I am thinking about getting a Ku for a couple of dish 500 dishes that I have gotten recently) , in the Ku world is 1/8" about 4 degrees?

thanks

I'm thinking a dish500 is a trifle small for effective G10R viewing. Even my 30" dish has had problems on a couple of the tp's. Your success will depend a lot on your location. See the beam diagram on Lyngsat for your location. Another aiming option is hitting 121W, the echostar bird right next door, and just nudge the dish 500 to the west. Echostar 9 is a powerful linear bird, but encrypted. The tp's are still up for reference , though.

The answer to your one and only question, is: NO.

. . . and . . .
The Dish 500 antenna won't get you anything from G10.
Not only because it's too small, but because it has the wrong type of LNB.

If it's G10 you have in mind, a proper dish as BrentB suggested, would be the place to start.
Thirty six inches would be a good size, but something in that range, equipped with a linear LNB, will do the job.

What sort of programming are you looking for?
Have you looked through the lists of what's available FTA on Ku band?
Whatever it is, if it's out there, we can get you on the beam. -

I guess the real question was how much is a nudge?

If one satellite is found and you want something else how far do you have to move the dish? Is 4 degrees, (the difference between G13 and G10) an 1/8"?

Yes, I have looked at the FTA lists and no I did not know that the D500 would probably be too small.

if you make a mark on the back of the mast 6 degress is approx 1/16" movement. So I guess go off of there.

2 degrees is a lean into the dish :)

WOW!

did not realize that the Ku side was the sensitive, having only worked with the bigger BUDs

thanks for the information!
