Please Help: Dish Network Question

ok here is the situation, i have dish network. i had 5 recievers and i want to get another one...

Can i buy a dish reciever off ebay? will it work without one of those yellow cards? or if the person is selling me a reciever WITH the yellow card, will it work with my reciever?

welcome to the site ssk2121. make sure you check feedback before buying from ebay. if you have the proper switches, no balance on the receiver, you should be able to activate the receiver. if it comes with a blue card, dish will send you a yellow one. if it comes with a yellow card and the receiver is clear, they should activate it right away.

Just curious, why would you want a inactive receiver? Kinda expensive for a door stop.

well i would like for it to work. iam a little confused. let me rephrase that. i read online somewhere that if you have an existing dish network account, you can buy another reciever online with a yellow card and it will work for free. you dont need to call in and add another reciever for the extra charge...i dont know how true this is. that is why i was wondering if i can just buy a reciever from ebay with a yellow card.

The only way to get a dish network receiver to work in a meaningful way is to activate it and pay the $5 per month fee for the additional receiver.

haha ok good well thats why i registered here so i could find out the truth. either way i look at it i will have to register the reciever and pay the $5 a month for it. ok thanks for all the help. i greatly appreciated it.
