Sometimes,
there are athlete who it seems as if the media NEVER says anything negative.
Most star athletes these days get positive and negative press,
but can you recall any that it seemed they had a halo over their head and it annoyed you?
My choice will surprise you: Joe Montana.
But hear me out:
When the Chiefs played the Bills for the AFC Championship game in my last year in Buffalo, reading much of the press and coverage outside of Buffalo prior to the game and around the playoff win over the Oilers (to this date, still Marty Schottneheimer's last playoff win) annoyed me.
As a Bills fan, given what had happened in the playoffs against Houston and how the Oilers wanted a crack at revenge, I wanted Bills/Oilers II.
Instead, I got Bills/Chiefs, and everything I heard made it seem as if the Chiefs were supposed to win because they had Montana. They went on and on and on to the point where it seemed as if everyone felt that Montana alone could scare the Bills.
I'll be honest: I hated the way he was viewed by others. I respect him as a legend, but I hated the way the media treated him like a golden boy who could no wrong and always come out smelling like a rose.
Just ONE time, I wanted everyone to see that Montana was not invincible/immortal.
I was SO satisfied when Buffalo pummeled the Chiefs that day; it was as if the Bills proved to everyone that just because the other's guy a legend, you don't get a free pass to a Super Bowl!
Montana's great, don't get me wrong, and he earned every one of his 4 Super Bowl rings- but the way the media seemed to pull for him to get #5 sickened me.
