Red Sox starting pitcher Aaron Cook has given up just two walks and two strikeouts TOTAL, for his entire season of five starts and 29.2 innings. This is the first time in modern major league history that a pitcher has had two or fewer walks and two or fewer strikeouts over his first five starts in a season. On June 29th he threw an 81 pitch, complete game that lasted just 2 hours and eighteen minutes.

How did we ever live without computers to mine data bases and find obscure records for us?

I saw this stat the other day and was shocked!

If you have a defense like the 70's Orioles (Paul Blair, Brooks Robinson, Mark Belanger, etc.) AND keep the ball in the park then great, if you don't.......then look out!!

Fwiw,

Todays Tigers (Porcello) vs White Sox (Sale) was a quick affair....

Game Information
Stadium Comerica Park, Detroit, MI
Attendance 42,888 (104% full) - % is based on regular season capacity
Game Time 2:11

I remember most games finishing under 2:30 when I was a kid (late '60s/early '70s)...and it wasn't unusual to finish a complete game in under 2-hours. Of course, no designated hitting in the AL helped move things along.

And they didn't use relievers as much either.

A reliever when he did come in went 2-3 innings, none of this "Closer" stuff where you can only pitch ONE inning...
