PIP questions

I got Dish installed recently with HD DVR 722 with two room setup. This thing is bitching, easily outdoing my previous DirecTV setup with Tivo.

Two questions about PIP:

1) Is is possible to display closed captioning for the 2nd picture, the one without sound?

2) I tried using TV2 remote to control the 2nd picture in PIP, but it still controls the main picture. Is there a way to do this?

Some background. I've got a 60" HDTV in the living room, and like to be with my 4-year old daughter when she's watching her cartoons. Since she doesn't mind sharing the screen with me using PIP, I thought it would be great if I can watch my shows on the 2nd picture with CC enabled. It would also be great if I could change the programming without having to swap my picture to be the main picture, which also affects which picture gets the sound. 4-year olds don't like TV without sound, even for a few seconds!!

The 1st question I've been struggling with even before I got Dish. My HDTV natively can support PIP using two different sources (i.e. one satellite, one OTA), but the sound and CC always goes to one picture. This is really dumb, since having CC on the picture without sound would be much more useful. Now that I have Dish, I was hoping they would have noticed this deficiency with PIP. Nope!!

I don't know about the closed captioning, but the only way to change tv2 is to swap the pip then make the change you want then swap back.

If you press the right arrow and then scroll (or direct input) though the channels to the one that you want, then press pip (rather than "Select"), this will cause the pip to switch to this channel.
