I have an HR34. I have 2 problems with it.

On playback.

The picture will go blank and freeze for a second or two this happens once or twice an hour.

The other problem is on one and only one playback (Stuart Varney on fox business channel) the screen will freeze and stay frozen until I Fast Forward it this will work for a few minutes then it will happen again. That only happens on this one show.

My hunch is that these to problems are related as they are different yet similar.

If I watch it live there is no problem.

I have tried running the hard disk diagnostic both the short test and file test and it has made no difference.

Please help

:welcome to Satelliteguys Al!

Have you checked your signal strengths on all of the satellites and transponders? Check the 99c and 103ca/cb satellites and let us know what you get.

It could well be a software or hardware problem, I usually start with the stuff that's easy to check first, like signal strength.

Signal strength has to do with how robust the signal is, not the quality of the picture. You can have low signal strength and the picture will look fine.

Menu, settings, sat & antenna, view signal strength. When a screen comes up with the numbers for 101, hit enter and you will go to the next satellite, 110. You need to continue to scroll to the 99 and 103 satellites.

99C

1-8 92 95 88 89 90 92 87 89
9-16 90 93 88 89 95 95

103CA

9-16 89 87 91 89 87 85 91 89
17-24 86 85 91 88 85 84 92 89

103CB

1-8 93 95 89 88 88 95 87 87
90 94 88 89 91 94

Those are reasonable numbers, although they could be higher unless you are in southern CA where they apparently have a somewhat weaker signal. Signal strength is unlikely to be your problem, more likely it's software based. There have been reports of similar problems. It's something they are working on. Hopefully it will help you.
