I use my Sony HD recorder to do all my recording from my FTA receiver. Every now and then the power goes out and the clock dumps. That unit has IMHO a stupid automatic time set for the clock. (never buy anything with an auto clockset only system) It has in the past set the clock from the local over the air PBS station within an hour or so. Well, it has not set in 4 days. Has PBS stopped sending out time set signals? If they have, is there any way that would not cost an arm and a leg for some device to set this clock? I already give the gas station an arm and a leg now with the 60 cents a gallon increase in a month so I don't have many parts left.

I'm guessing the clock is set using the TVGOS service, which is in the process of being shut down. Most PBS stations killed the TVGOS signal November 1.

I know this is way off topic & the wrong thread, but...
Does that kill the DishNet converter boxes?
I have a Dish, ChannelMaster, & whatever Radio Shack sold , all of which are pretty good.
Just haven't used 'em in several years. ;)

I've noticed PBS off 125 and the CTV Canadian stations give good time stamps for the MicroHD...

Un-plug the unit, wait till exactly 12:00am, plug back in. :)
Hi there,
If the clock would startup at 0000hours when plugged in, that would work very well. But the idiots that designed it to not have a "you set the time" function also had it start the clock when plugged in at any time it wants to.
Guess I am just going to have to adjust my timers for the number of hours it is off. Bummer.

Does the manufacturer have a new firmware file available for updating the unit? How old is it? Seems that they should have some option rather than obsolescence.

No updates. Sony could care less from different discussions on various forums. One person stated they updated the time from WBBM channel 2.1. That was written a month ago.
These units are DHG-HDD 500 and DHG-HDD 250, from June of 2005 and May of 2005.
Really Ice, no manual clock set. I got lucky on one of them and plugged it in and only have a two hour difference in time. So I adjusted my timers. Bummer, but it works.
.
I need an electronics guru to make me a time generating device to hook to these and set the time.

It's a modern consumer electronic device, after 5 years it should be recycled and replaced by whatever the latest and greatest thing is,that doesn't work as well and won't last as long.:D

Yes, as the old adage goes, you hit the nail square on the head!

And just for example,I'm on my second LCD tv in less than 10 years. It sits right next to my 25+ year old SONY 27" that's used everyday and all that's been done to that was replace the pic tube (with a used one) and the speakers (the foam surround on the cones rotted away).I was/am a tv repairman so it didn't cost me anything but time to do it.
