Pansat 9200 PVR Software Now Available

Pansat has posted a new bin that has PVR capabilities for the Pansat 9200. A hardware mod may be required on earlier models.

thanks for the heads up. I just checked my serial number against the doc on the pansat site. It looks like I'm a bit unlucky as my serial is in the second group. Normally I would have at it with the soldering, but this unit is a bit pricey for me to work on. Guess I will have to send it in. I should have kept one backup receiver........

Yes, it looks like they will do it for free. Shipping won't be that big a deal. It's just worrying about damage in transit, and more importantly, I don't have another box for FTA, to use while it is gone. Maybe I'll search around to find another HD box that hasn't been reviewed here yet, if I could find something cheap enough. I've been wanting another box to put in the spare room again. The plan was to wait for something better than the 9200.

What DVB-S2 is out there that is worth buying the board?

I have a 7K series- so to confirm, I do NOT need to hardware mod- correct?

So when you download this new software, will it be able to do PVR functions? If so, do I need an external HD or a big memory stick to get it working? If not, how would I be able to make it a DVR after downloading the software?

Besides the S2 Equity mux that Iceberg mentioned on 93w, Equity has plans to go S2 on all of their satellites, including 123w. There is no time table for this changeover, but many of us want to future-proof ourselves The S2 changeover will occur on 95w first, then finally on 123w Ku.

I took the cover off my 9200 yesterday to look at what's necessary for the modification. After studying it for a while, I concluded against touching it. I can solder just about anything and this is the one thing I won't. This component is so small I fear heat destruction and wouldn't attempt it without another component to take it's place.

Probably best to let Pansat take care of it.

You think they would have taken this into consideration when the PVR option was thought about since day one. Not change design in mid production.

I read somewhere that they had problems with a chip manufacturer regarding the implementation of eSATA. Perhaps that is the reason why a hardware work-around was required...
