I am thinking of buying a Pansat 3500SD receiver to replace my Coolsat 4000 Pro. I just noticed that Pansat introduced a new receiver (2800A) in November 2006, but looks to have the same features as the 3500SD. Which one should I purchase?

The only major difference between the 2800 and the 3500 that I know of is the 3500 has an SD card slot. Makes it easy to edit channel lists, makes backup lists etc. Any my kids personal favorite is the 3500 plays MP3's

I have a 3500 btw and it's been one of the best I have played with (not that I've got years of experience in FTA, but I have been playing alot this winter with different receivers: Coolsat, Captiveworks, Viewsat(blech IMO), Pansat)

2800 is supposed to be a 2700a with component outs.

If this is so, I've had no problems with my venerable 2700a, so it should be a good receiver. I'd still like the updated 3500 though...

I believe the 2800 has more memory than the 2700 also. Either way, I see the 3500 around the net is usually price cheaper than the 2800 and I am not sure why. The specs match up almost exactly except for the SD card difference. I personally would go with the 3500.

Did the 2700 have the "Pansat" issue when scanning a DBS satellite (the 13 "dummy" channels per TP issue)?

I know the 3500 did not have this issue

edit: did some checking and the 3500 can control a polorotor for the big dish...the 2800 can not

Thank you guys for the information. Due to not scanning "dummy" channels, polorotor control and SD card I will go with the 3500SD. Plus, I will be able to add an optional UHF remote control.

Yes the 2700 did have that annoying issue. Glad to hear the 3500 doesn't. The 2700 could control a polarotor, so if the 2800 can't they must have dumped the polarotor interface to add the component outs.

All in all, I'd definitely go with the 3500, given these facts.
