Have Dish and thinking about Direct. Is it a fact that you can't do OTA with Directs receivers? Thanks

The new receivers dont have the OTA tuner built in the box. There is an add on that fixes this nicely though (i think it only works with the DVRs at this point however)

OTA

We live fulltime in our fifthwheel and having the ota is very important to us so guess we will have to stay where were at.Thanks for the answers.

Would you be getting the HD-DVR if you decided to switch? If so, again, the OTA module works seamlessly with this box. The channel info shows up in the guide as if it were built in. They will usually give these for free if you must have OTA

Yes, why would this OTA issue be a problem, they have a unit that does the OTA for you that works very well.
Also, if you look around and happen to find the older rec's the H/HR 20 series, they would be used, but they have the OTA tuner built into them. they newer stuff does not, but the AM21 accommodate those units very well.

I had a HR20-700 that I just replaced with a HR21-100 because it malfunctioned. I had OTA hooked up for my OTA HD channels not on satellite and sub channels.

Well as you know the HR21 doesn't have built in OTA. I need a AM21. The last time I replaced a bad HR20, DirecTV send me a AM21 free of charge. This time they insist I pay for it. The best I could do was a price of $25 from retentions. My account is noted, should I decide to take the offer.

What do ya'll think? Take it or leave it? I don't use OTA that often but it is nice to have.

No wonder I've never heard of it. My local channels are picked up using the regular satellite dish.

I too get my locals via satellite but, satellite doesn't offer the sub channels that OTA does and doesn't offer all the local networks. I only get ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC in HD via satellite.

I see you're from Green Bay. Are you a Slack Pack fan? My wife is a big cheesehead. (That didn't sound good)

I like the Packers but, I'm not a cheese head. I watch the games every week. You gotta support your home team. ;)

take it. that's what I paid $25. it's still better than full price.

CW, PBS and My Network TV HD channels.

Also, getting the channels via OTA can be a great backup in case you ever have rain fade.

No. The new models require the additional AM-21 to get OTA through the receiver. I don't think DirecTV will be going back to offering OTA as a built-in to its receivers any time soon if ever.

How much does an AM-21 cost and where do you buy them?

You can get them online

you could also call them to see if they'll give you a discount or maybe even get it for free. It's better if you call them 1-800-DIR-ECTV
they run for $50 but call.

Grampi, in the Green Bay market, on the digital channels, we have a two sub-channel's for our local ABC, 2-2 which is 24/7 weather, and 2-3, retro network. I get most of my weather from 2-2. We also have MNT, My network TV, CW, and PBS. The first two aren't on Satellite yet, and even when PBS is, it has two sub-channels that won't be as well.
