I unfortunately live in a location where I can only put up a single dish, so I can't get HD through Dish.

However, I understand with the ViP722, I can receive OTA locals in Hi-Def. Problem is I'm out in the sticks where the local stations come in extremely week.

My question: Circuit City is selling a local channel "signal booster" that attaches to the front of the dish. Do these things work? Does anyone know of other ways to boost the signal?

Local "over the air" tv signals are received with a standard TV antenna. Even and "old school" tv antenna will work fine. You can use a standard coax antenna booster with these, same ones they've been making for 40 years. It doesn't mount on the front of the dish, it mounts in-line between the antenna, and the receiver. I have a VIP622, and I have an 20 year old Winegard UHF booster, that pushes like 29db signal, with only 1 db noise. More than I need, but in it's former life, I used it to DX signals a couple states over from where I lived. I didn't want to buy a new one. It doesn't overload the receiver. You can't easily even find a super low noise amp like that anymore. The low noise level is more important than a high signal level. Look for one with at least 17db signal, and less then 3db noise (lower the better).

KASQOT,

To be clear you have the right to install and use multiple Dish's and a OTA Antennas on your property, or if you live in a Townhome, Condo, or apartment installed in your own exclusive use area.

No HOA, or Local ordinance can restrict you to a specific Dish or Dishes as long as those Dish(s) are less than one Meter (3.2 Feet) or Any size OTA as long as they are necessary to be able to receive the programing you subscribe too. Certain conditions can be placed on their installation as long these conditions does NOT add significant costs to their installation or restrict you from receiving those signals from a specific installation location, or can be restricted in a Registered HISTORICAL District, but again can't be completely Banned.

This is a Federal Law and supersedes ANY local law or ordinance, and especially HOA's. The Link to this information is; FCC Fact Sheet on Placement of Antennas

Print it out and present it to any organization that is "restricting" any Dish's installation, and tell them in not uncertain terms to SUCK ON IT. Tell them to sue you in Court if they wish, (any and all resulting litigation will rule in your favor and any and all costs for these civil cases will have to be paid by the losing party).

To Conclude almost NO Entity has the right to tell you what DBS Dish(s), FTA Dish(s), and or ANY OTA antennas can in installed on your owned property.

Do you have a good long range antenna like the Channel Master 4228? What does antennaweb.org say about your location and available channels?
