I'm looking for opinions on which type of systems are easiest to maintain.. And maybe some pros and cons..

I'm disabled, so I won't be able to run out and adjust anything myself.. I'll have to pay someone to set up a system, or systems, for me.. Although, I'm hoping to get one of my brother's teenage boys interested in this..

Systems..

Motorized system
Multifeed system
Multidish system

Thanks, BK

I don't have a system so take this for what it's worth. But I am planning on getting a motorized system. That way I don't have to keep moving the dish to get a new satellite. I want to be able to see as many sats as I can.

Once you get the motorized system setup (properly) you can basically forget about it. The motor should last several years. Switches can burn out and would be more maintenance-intensive IMO.

I have multiple dishes because it allows me to watch different things at once, but I would vote for a motorized system because it's less of a hassle and will last forever. I had 2 arms/motors on my big dish over a span of 8 years. The 2nd arm was going strong after the 8 years but parents beyond my control busted it.

I would also vote motorized if you will be watching FTA on just one TV! One cable does it all, no switches needed! (Less things to go wrong)

When you change channel the dish will move to the correct satellite! (After proper install)

I don't think I have touched my motorized system in around 3 years! :)

I would say it would depend on what you want to watch. I myself, am in a bit of a quandry about this. Currently I have my stationary dish parked @ G10R. I really have little interest in any other sats out there, except maybe IA6 for the feeds. So... is it actually worth motorizing a dish to see one other sat? Hard to say in my siuation.(Still thinking about it) :) On the other hand...like the old saying goes..."if you have it, you'll use it," (motor) so if they're as maintenance free as these guys say...then you should go for it! Enjoy :up

get a motorized unit. If you have a fixed dish, you'll be itchin to see what else is out there

I guess that settles that... Thanks guys..

I actually thought it would have been the Multidish system.. I'm glad I asked before buying anything..

For years of maintenance free service, I would suggest to buy the largest, highest quality motor you are able to get. With a small dish with a large motor, the motor will not have much stress moving the dish. A motor with the maximum size dish will/may struggle to move the dish at the far ends of your arc.

I have both multiple fixed dishs and a motorized system. While i love the almost instant satellite/channel changes afforded by the fixed dishs, I would never give up my motorized dish. A good high quality motor should give you years of use and allow you to see all the satellites possible.

That sounds like a good idea.. Thanks..

That's good to know..

I keep going up there with my satellite meter thinking I will be able to tweak it, but so far NOTHING has ever moved :)

There are so many channels on G10r that if I could see it from my yard I would put a fixed dish on it and view the others as I do now with the motor. But as far as what to set up first..I vote for the motorized system too.

:hatsoff:

Sorry to but in... I like to watch GNF Movies on IA5. My daughter likes Fashion TV, and I have watched some American movies in English on Sudan TV :) The foreign stuff is fun to watch too :)
