OpenBox S9 HD Factory Website. Latest OEM firmware available there.

I am considering purchasing of one of these receivers, and found the web site for a factory in China that builds them. They have their latest factory firmware for the North American market available for download.

Interesting site. They build many different satellite receivers for the world wide market.

Is this new firmware, or just the latest that has been out for awhile?

The firmware at the site is dated Mar 25 , 2010 . That's certainly not the latest firmware that runs in the box. I'm running the 9/27/2010 firmware , so maybe mine isn't factory ? Or the factory doesn't keep it's site up, but the actual programmers have a separate location ? Lots of questions, no answers .

Here's the lastest firmware, released November 8th I think, downloaded from another site. They didn't really fix anything as far as I can tell, just improved the satellite/transponder list.

I really wish they would do something to improve the high bitrate recording issue. It is possible that this is a hardware limitation, and cannot be fixed via firmware. If it could be improved, I'd quickly buy a couple of these receivers.

I just downloaded their latest firmware from a couple days ago and now ALL of my menus are disabled besides the upgrade one. I loaded some other software that was supposed to show the Chip ID to see if my box was a clone and it indicated that mine was original according to the info I have.

Why would you do that? If it's working, don't f(%@ with it. From what I've read, all the new firmware contains the "clone Kill" code which will brick a clone on or after the 10th boot. You'll find out soon enough if you have a clone.
And is Shenzhen Yojia Technology Co., Ltd. the actual manufacturer? Could be they're just another Manufacturers Rep. The About Us page has an exterior picture of a building, sure, BUT THERE'S NO NAME ON THE BUILDING. NO LOGO, NOTHING. There's some type of logo on a sign, but it doesn't resemble the bird on the website. Could be the local clinic for all we know. If they are the originator of the openbox, and wanted to enable someone to see if their openbox did, or did not, originate at their factory, wouldn't you think that they would post the "Clone Check" software on their site?? I have 3 chinese sites in my bookmarks, all claiming to be the "original manufactory" of the openbox, and numerous other brand names. And none of them has posted this "Clone Check" software. So this brings up another good question: who wrote and released this "Clone Check" software?? If your afraid of getting a clone, and want only to "get the real thing", deal ONLY with reputable dealers. There's some listed on the top of the page.

Until someone can prove who the original manufacturer is, they are all clones.
