Network setup shows that the receiver picked up an IP from my wireless network, not sure what is it for. For instance can I get signal to a TV in basement without getting a new receiver using wireless option? If yes, how? TY

It's my understanding that even though an Openbox s9 has an RJ45 connection on the back they still aren't network capable? That is one of the negatives IMHO. You didn't say whether you had a USB wireless adapter in your Openbox or not?? If you do and your DHCP server assigned an IP address to it then yeah, the two are communicating but again, it's my understanding that the Openbox receiver is not network capable, ie, yeah, it's there but you can't use it for anything.
Nope, internet connectivity its there just to be used for legal cardsharing (Europe).
Don't have a USB wireless adaptor nor have any network cable connected to the box, yet it has an IP assigned from my wireless network. BTW what is IMHO? TY

IMPOSSIBLE to have your network see that Openbox without some kind of connection to your network, ie, wireless adapter plugged into that USB port (which probably won't work anyway) or a network cable plugged into the RJ45 connection on the back!!!??? Do you or did you have a LAN cable plugged into it from your router?

So, when you turn your OpenBox ON, your PC network admin detects a new device on the network?
First of all, I am with the others and didn't think that the OpenBox had WiFi capabilities.
Secondly, I would think that you would have to set it up to make it work in the first place... if it actually existed.
Please tell us more about this as it is highly unusual!

Somewhere buried in the menus of my OpenBox I've seen what TY must be looking at. It shows the current IP as being in the same range as most home routers 192.168.001.108 (is this what you have?). But when I check my router table of assigned IP's it's not in there. Maybe the IP assigned to the box the original firmware was copied from.

Yeah, I'll buy that one! It's going to default to the last IP address it had unless a new DHCP server assigns it a new one.
I wish the Openbox had real network capabilities such as streaming and networked media playback. Not sure whether or not the hardware is actually capable and its just not being written into the firmware. I believe the Openbox hardware is capable of far more than the firmware is enabling.
Isn't that true with most of the receivers out there though? I know it is with Opensat and the AZ Boxes as they just keep on making new models that use the same junk firmware and as you probably already know, anything that's designed to do everything doesn't do anything very well. But hey, as long as we keep buying it like it is, nothing is going to change.
