My Son and Daughter-in-law are expecting their 1st child (my 1st Grandson!:)) in January and he's just finishing school. They've had some credit problems which are now under control but in no position to add on any new bills. I'd like to give them the gift of Dish TV and pay the bill for at least the 1st year. Anyone have any experience along these lines? Frankly, I don't know if their credit report would qualify them for service right now or not. I'd be ok with doing the commitment thing and autopay to MY credit if they would consider it a NEW customer and then qualify for the current promotions.
Guess I'll call the Dish Store on Monday and see what they say. My Son actually lives down near them in Macomb County. I would think they would actually do the install directly.
If any of you folks have done something like this please post. Thanks!

I have 3 DISH accounts . One for my family, one for my parents and one for my aunt , all in my name. The difference is I bought ALL of my DISH receivers and dishes etc and installed them myself. I would think you can do the same thing withOUT a commitment. But if you want the free install , receivers and such, you will get a 24 month commitment.

If they'll treat the 2nd account as a new customer & apply all the promos (HBO/Showtime free for 3 months, $15 @ month off for a year) I wouldn't have a problem with a 24 month commitment. We'll see.....

Dish allowed my mom to use her SS# and credit card to qualify her brother for the freebies who had some credit problems that are now under control, too. The CSR did make it clear that my mom would be responsible for any charges relating to early cancellation, etc. It was very easy, and her brother is going on 6 years with Dish. Of course, her brother pays the Dish bill because he does have the resources to do so. My mom just wanted to get him the freebies as a new customer.

I would think that if you do a Credit Card auto-pay on your CC, Dish will be happy to bill your CC each month. Then, when your son is ready to assume the monthly bill, he can change the arrangements by using his CC for auto pay or requesting a monthly statement and pay by check.

So, it should be treated as whole new account qualifying for all the freebies.

You need your sons SSN and credit or debit card to qualify. Once he is approved, then we put your credit card on the second screen in the order entry tool so you can pay the bill

I would need both of you on the phone to establish the account, first of all I need to speak to the son to credit qualify the account, then I would need to speak to you to read the credit card autopay disclosure.

The key on this whole type of deal is speaking to all parties involved so the disclosures are done properly.

Feel free to call me tomorrow, I'll be in after 1:30pm est

Claude-I just talked to my son and the bottom line is he's got too much pride to let Dad do this for him. I respect him for that although I really wanted to do it for them. Maybe later on. I appreciate your response. Thanks!
