Just curious why the number #6 and not the #7. Number 7 says it's got a nagra slot, number 6 does not. Does that mean it will decode it automatically... NOT REFERING TO HIJACKING... i'm looking at if I get a globecast with a card....
 
If going with Globecast It'd probably be best to go ahead and go with one of their supported receivers. Sadoun has even said no guarantees theirs would work.

That'd be a good question, what use is a CAM'd FTA reciever in the US?
 
as well if I went with a motorized system as opposed to a stationary t-90 would only be able to use one satellite at a time. With a t-90 would I not be able use 2 sats at a time? Install wise, would the t90 be a monster to install or a motorized system be easier?
 
Even with the T90 you're only going to get a couple sats at a time. It may be a better fit for what you want to do but that is up to you.

I'd do a fixed dish for the GC stuff with a Dual LNB.

Motorize a second dish and use a DiSEqC switch to tie in the #2 input from the fixed dish. One less position for your motor to have to move to :). It'll make channel changes faster too (when switching to something on that sat).

I work for a Telco, and we do the same things for cell phones, but really the issue for this receiver would be encryption, and the Conditional (Cam) card would give me permission to use the service. And if I do have a Cam'd receiver would not that mean I could use it for stuff that the machine is bootleg able. Please understand that's not my intention, I'm just trying to get a grasp on this whole thing. 25 years of cable, 5 years of DTV/Dish has left me a little uneducated about such matters.

And from Seattle how many satellites could I actually get? If I went with a t90 would there be receivers that I would not be able to get had I went with a motorized receiver? I.e. Southern facing for 5, and 3 northern facing so because you have the T90 and it's stationary it's one or the other?

I think the Terroidial dishes claim a 60° spread. Of course with 3 LNBs that's three sats you get to choose from. To get more you need to buy more LNBS / LNB holders / Switches for the dish.

As Sadoun said, GC will only activate their reciever so unless you get a reciever free / used cheap than you aren't really $$ ahead going with a CAM'd reciever for GC.

Don't worry about the CAM'd box 'looking' like an attemt to hack. Heck the boxes most of us are using are HEAVILY marketed towards the hack market. It's kind of sad. The good news is when Dish gets the NAg2 conversion done there should be craploads of FTA recievers on the cheap on ebay :).

That is a list of the sats you should be able to see from North America. Of cource we are only concerned with the ones that will do Ku. Some of us have had luck seeing sats outside of the 61.5-148 window. It's better for the east coast guys but I'm in AZ and I get PAS9 (58W) reliably.

Assuming just inside the 61.5 - 148 window that's 26 sats. Now not all have FTA content.... some have occatonal feeds... but that's what makes the motorized setup nice.

I have a motorized P* dish now and I think I'm going to add some fixed dishes to the mix to make channel changes faster and to save wear and tear on the motor.
 
thanks shawn... what kind of lifespan do the motors have any ways? Right now I'm in a condo, have Dishnetwork set up, gitting rid of it, as I also currently am running comcast. as far as the location I have the dish set up would use that as my basis for running an FTA dish. Now I also am aware that Directv... I should expect nothing from since it's a PAYSAT... I am wondering how must more difficult setting up a motor would be over a stationary with multiple lnbs... the t90 ya comes with 3 but capable of 16. My thinking if I did go this route, just go full out. As long as I can get the major stuff banged out of the way may just end up not paying for nothing monthly.

Not sure on the motor. I'm sure some run forever. It probably just depends on usage / weight of the dish. Mine isn't even sneezing at the weight of the P* on it.

The problem is LNBs aren't super cheap. You'll also need to cascade disec switches and use DiSEqC 1.1 to do more than 4 LNBs. So let's say you want to do 8 sats.

3 LNBs included - presumably 1 DiSEqC switch.
Add 5 more LNBs at $19/ea (cheap) - there's $120 in LNBs.
Now you need 2 more DiSEqC switches and you'll need yet another if you add any more LNBs / dishes... so 2x $10 (cheap) - $20

That's $140 on top of the system price to get just a part of what you can get with the motorized setup. And unless the LNB for GC is a dual LNB, you won't be able to see IA5 from your FTA box.

Assuming you wanted to fully populate the dish at 16, add another $140.

It's probably cheaper to buy two dishes. Fix one on IA5, and motorize the other.
 
is it possible to check and see if that channel is still free, I'm thinking i'm not, and that means I gotta buy globecast, and then additional. thanks Ben
 
Don't they offer you a lease program or something?
I'm trying to sub KISB, and they have lease-and-buy program.
Once you sub with KISB, they will send you a DISH($15 for shipping), STB($10 for shipping) for free, and later on, if you want to purchase dish and stb from KISB, just pay $100 and they are yours.
I think they send you 76cm dish, but the STB, they send you Humax VA3210.

I'm just currious... because when I go to lyngsat it says STN should be an FTA according to Arabsat2c. Now I live in Seattle, and don't think I should be able to pull that Sat. I'm been himmin and hawin but no buyin'. Thinking to go 1meter dish, and maybe a DVR set up with USALs. Also wondering HBO is listed on Lyngsat as an FTA how can that be? I've got my subscription via cable... but is it an FTA?
 
Arabsat 2C is not viewable from your area. Even if you were on the east coast you'd need a mighty big dish to pull it in. Bigger= more money so it kind of defeats your purpose of keeping it cheap. And no HBO is not FTA.
 
arabsat is not available in the us for a couple reasons

-the beam doesnt cover it
-you'd have to saw the earth in half due to the elevation :)
 
you can buy a globecast receiver sometime with a card that can be reactivated off e-bay. i did for setanta sports and had no problem signing on and no activation fee at all.
 
figured arabsat wouldnt be available with me being in Seattle. If I were to nab a receiver off ebay, would any FTA dish 80cm 90cm be able to pull it off, or would I need the "eliptical" dish? Sound retarded, until I get it mounted and then.... I'm sorry you got the wrong dish :)

Since you are in Seatle, I recommend that you get a 90cm dish or bigger. Anything smaller will not work, specially since you will be using a Globecast receiver.
 
90cm is the minimum you are suggesting to pull off Globecast, if i am trying to pull off normal stuff, ie FTA to pick up satellite signals from WY, or the other stuff I see on Lyngsat how big should I go? Is the 90cm just because it's Globecast, or because I am in seattle?
