A 16 tuner DVR sounds convincing but from my understanding would be headache to make and then the technology for the coax would be even harder.
I think dish should have an option, where if you have high-speed internet, and you have more than 3 tuners going on a receiver, it will popup asking if you would like to download this [movie/ episode[.
Of course, it won't work for live events, live news, new episodes, etc, but it would be handy if all 3 tuners are used and you wanted to download another old episode on a show.
Expanding even further, it could possibly be used for live broadcasts, but that would be expensive on dish's part as some kind of system where every live channel would have to stream over the internet to be able to be dvr'ed by your receiver.
If you think about it, modern dish receivers are kind of a satellite/IPTV hybrid as they can download shows over the internet into the DVR. The feature of being able to do this right on the guide when all tuners are being used would be handy.
