There was a little interest in the pub for some type of a "fantasy"-type league for the olympics, so I thought I would open it up to others as well.
I just created a group for SatelliteGuys over at Sandbox/NBC's site for the Olympic Games. Any one is free to join and there is no fee to join for this fantasy league. Sandbox is giving away prizes if you are lucky and pick the right teams.
If you are already a Sandbox member:
1. Login here to play Medal Madness here
If you are not already a Sandbox member, follow the simple directions to register an account.
1. Visit here to register an account. It's Free.
2. Login to play Medal Madness here. Pick your team name and your entries.
3. After you pick your teams, click on the "Groups" list on the left side of the screen and then Join a group. To join the group, use the group number 133. There is no password if it prompts.
From the rules:
BASIC STRATEGY. The Game divides the countries at the Athens Games into 10 groups, based on the number of medals the various countries have won at the previous two Summer Games. Each Participant will pick one country from each of the 10 groups, for 10 countries in total. For each country selected, the Participant will receive a number of points for each medal the country wins: three for a gold, two for a silver, one for a bronze. The number of points each country earns will then be multiplied by a factor that is different for each group. Countries that have won many medals in recent Games, such as the United States and Russia, will have low multipliers, while countries that have never won an Olympic medal will have higher multipliers. Point totals will be tabulated at the end of each day of the Olympics and the Participants who have scored the most Points at the end of each day, for that specific day shall be eligible to win a daily prize as outlined below in the “Prize Description” section. The Participant who has accumulated the most total Points from August 13, 2004 through August 29, 2004 shall be eligible to win the grand prize as outlined below in the “Prize Description” section. See “Scoring” for further details.
