2 general ?'s for all in this forum.
When I upgrade to a Dish HD (or probably dual HD/SD) receiver (haven't done this or picked the type I want to upgrade to yet), will my old style ( or any of the old style), non-HD TV's work when I try to tune in an HD station on an HD-receiver plugged into a non-HD TV?
I have 4 old TV's right now, vintages 1981 & 1985 (analog tuners, raw, basic units, no advanced features at all), and 2000 & 2003 (digital tuners and some features like channel setup and search, closed caption, etc...).
The worse case is that I buy 4 new HD tv's (not economically sensible). 1 HD TV would make more sense, and 2 is possible.
Right now I have 2 SD receivers of a Dish 500 system cabled up to 2 of the TV's, and then I also have each Dish receiver also outputting to a Lorex 2.4 Ghz "intrahouse" transmitter that can be received by the other 2 TV's via a compatible "Lorex receiver". I did this so I didn't have to run cabling up and down the steps. The 2 "Lorex transmitters" each take a 3 wire A/V cable hookup from one of the Dishnetwork Receivers. The Lorex receivers can either plug into the newer TV's with a 3 wire cable, or the older TV's with a really inelegant adapter to the "antenna screws" built from a Radio Shack splitter and a Coax cable, which works quite well, for now.
So the questions are:
1. If I choose to keep my old TV's, will any of them take an HD signal and put this on the screen as an SD picture, and the quality be the same as SD?
2. Will my Lorex "intrahouse" transmission setup still work for a HD signal, or is there a newer model for doing this in HD within your home? I still hate to run cabling upstairs from the basement and the family room, where the 2 Dishnetwork Receivers presently come in. (Don't want to drill/tear up the walls and floors, etc..., or run any cabling up the steps.).
Thanks for your patience in listening to all of this.
