Wondering if I could use the 500 dish to recieve 97W & 101W. I would use a L-lnbf. Would the size be okay? I know with using the Dish 500 with their Lnb I can get 110W & 119W great. I am sure someone has tried this before and how did it work? I just have the Dish 500 sitting around and thought maybe to use it.

Echostar satellites are higher power, so you can use smaller dish antennas for 110 and 119.

A dish 500 is a bit too small for 97.

Try it for yourself and see.

You might get some TP's, but there will be trouble on the weaker ones.

Also, you will need different spacing between the LNBF's to try for 97 and 101. That's a four degree difference rather than nine degrees.

I can receive all the listed transponders on 97w or 101w using a single linear LNBF on a Dish500. Signal quality is marginal on some weaker transponders on 97w and will breakup in bad weather. 101w is a bit stronger here and should still work in light to moderate rain.

The Dish500 size is marginal at 21.5 inches, and I would not recommend it for all weather usage. But it is possible in some locations.

See my earlier post on this subject:

Your results may vary, depending mainly on the signal strength at your location. It's a fun project anyway.

Dishes satellites put out 200 watts. FSS linear ku put out 100 watts. A 21.5" dish mated with a linear lnbf may get some of the stronger channels on either bird but will not be totally reliable. I have 97 & 101 on an 84cm with a custom made bracket and it works great. A dish 500 dish with linear lnbf pointed at Anik F1R does pretty good for it's size in the northern U.S.

anyone still have the fleabay links to those dipole brackets to adapt the ku lnb to a dish 500?

Thanks to all you guys for the information. I should have my $4.95 bracket this Wednesday. If it does not rain, I'll hope to be outside in the evening trying my luck. I'll let you all know if and when I have something.
