I now have a dish 500,with a 942should I GET another dish or try to get the installer to put a dish 1000. will that cover all the sat.s I live about 50 to 60 miles west of charlotte. can any one help don't know which way to go, thanks Doug

You can either add an extra 18 inch dish that pointed at 61.5 or 129. Or replace your existing dish500 with a dish1000. Find out which option is cheaper or easier. If you have locals (that you subscribe to) at 61.5 then the upgrade may be free under the "must carry" rule, else the dish1000 might be the better option because it's a one dish solution. If you're south of DC then I believe you should have line of sight for 129 but verify that with dish first.

I have a Dish 500 pointed toward 61.5. Although I can receive VOOM at 129, the signal levels were much lower than those I receive at 61.5, which are between 106-114 depending on the transponder. Short of a hurricane, rain fade on 61.5 is a non-issue. Since you're in NC, I would recommend 61.5 if you don't mind a 2nd dish...however, if you are able to receive a reliable signal on 129 then you may wish to go with a single Dish 1000. It's a personal choice and I prefer to have a stronger signal. Plus, my 61.5 dish location was already in place since I am a former VOOMer.
